Hi

Is anyone out there using the Beresford Caiman (Gatorised) with the croft 25 pre. I would be interested to hear results. Only just fitted the Gator PCB to Beresford Caiman and very pleased with the improvement, would be interested to know if the Bushmaster brings more to the party.:)

I used a Caiman ungatorised around 2009 into a Croft Micro 25 Basic and Series 7 power amp and the results were fabulous. I also tried the Caiman straight into the Series 7 as a pre as well but the sound was truly dreadful. It was so much better with the pre in place.

+1. The Caiman is an excellent dac for the money but a terrible pre, in fixed mode with the 25 it sounds great.

Not my experience. I use a Gatorised Caiman with all the mods and a linear power supply. The amp is a Croft Series 7, it sounds excellent. I have tried a few pre's but not a Micro 25.
I found the benefits of a pre to be small and have reverted back to just using the Series 7.
You have got me doubting my own judgement now!:mental:

I've heard Alex's Gator-Caiman into hifi Dave's various Crofts and it certainly works. I ought to say that the Croft is worthy of far better in all honesty, since there's a raft of expression, soundstage and bass power to be discovered in your digital source, which the Croft is well able to exploit - IMO of course...
