Hi there,

What does anyone think of this amp please? I have chance to buy one. I'm currently using a bushmaster into a pair of FH3 speakers with MA chp70's. I know I don't need the power so much, but its a good price at around £500. I am using a loan pioneer a300r at the moment, and I could have the BM converted into a pre....

Any thoughts would be appreciated, or any ideas for an amp please.

Cheers

I like the 557 very much and that's a good price as long as it's in good order inside and not bashed about. I really think it needs a proper preamp though, either a matching 502 which is a good 'un (the 501 series 2 was good too and rather better than the mk1 version of the 501), or a better Croft or Quad or summat.

No I appreciate that, the preamp bit, and I would do in time. It's all about the funds you know! Thanks for the feedback.

In good condition that's a steal for a 557. It has the usual meridian sound, a bit laid back but nice enough. Best driven by a 502 in balanced mode.
