Technics SH 8055 Vintage equalizer - (Eq's are not strictly audiophile but I love mine in my system. I keep the spectrum analiser light display off as lights = noise. I've noticed a difference. My next mission will be to get the schematic for it to see how the red lights on each frequency slider can be cut off which will mean any noise there is also taken car of)

Mission 752 Freedom Speakers on Soundcare Superspikes ( The Soundcare Superspikes are great. Not only can you move the speakers about without gouging out your precious wooden floor like the normal spikes do, they also tighten up the bass and make the whole sound generally more right, they look brill too - excellent.)

Sorry, but the heavy undamped aerogel bass unit was plonked into the biggest volume box Mission (and the driver) could get away with and in absolute terms it shows. In some rooms they sounded boomy, yet in others they screeched. A VERY difficult speaker to get to work and glad yours seem to be working well for you :)

Hi David, These are not the the Original 752's ? which I've also tried and found the treble to be very steely sounding indeed out of the metal dome tweeter with the overall presentation very bright. The Freedoms which I have here were the revised version and better in my set up having had both. More balanced some would say slightly in the box sound from the Freedoms, slightly treble dominant / bright, out of the box presentation from the Original 752's. The Freedoms are great IMO, bass is very good too, yes slightly boomy at times but good, Bass ?? Lets just say I dont do bass dominant AND my system plays primarily soul and reggae, need I say more ?!! 'Screeched ??? Sorry you had such a bad experience in YOUR set up with them maybe you should have tried the Freedoms and not the Original 752's (Which Incidently I dont have !) :lol:

The marantz player is probably one of the best you can buy now cheaply I had one and loved it to pieces. My mate liked mine so much he went and bought one as well....jeeze talking about being a copy cat.....

So true Andrew - I mean they retailed at £500 and it was constantly said you would have to spend more than double to better one. I wanted to see what the fuss was about and managed to snag a minter with remote and user manual all in perfect order for £140, to say I was delighted is an understatement. It too sounds really good in my set up and has some great features as you know ie: it's own volume which is cool and I love the way you can dim the display in stages to almost nothing - love it. In fact I love buying rated kit that punches way above it's price would suggest :) My set up is very much about that. BTW, If your numbers ever come up, you can pass the Cadenza Black my way -(Smile) as it's said to be the 2M Black (which I absolutely love) but even more of it !

Robbie, I was a Mission and Cyrus dealer at the time and know both models well. A well known speaker designer gave chapter and verse on the way the bass unit was used - possibly because he had a hand in designing the 752's, I can't remember now :)

By the way, the original tweeter was a coated dome, not all metal as I recall. Still sounded waspish though with a nasty sizzle.

I dunno. Tweeters seem to be the one main thing that have genuinely improved in recent years. The modern designs of bass-mid driver are either for cheaper production in the far east, or fancy ones VERY expensive. Mind you, I believe Audax in current form have re-introduced the aerogel bass driver, or at least one of them :)

Yep agreed. I found the tweeter on the original to have an unatural tizziness to it ie: exagerated treble like the type you get from some sound systems with huge equalizers and power pushing numerous pieza tweeters. The Freedom addressed those issues and it's silk dome is a nice natural sounding tweeter most definately for me. I have also read plenty of favourable and positive stuf about the quality of the Audax / Aerogel mid driver as a good mid driver in general.
