Is anyone having problems with the snow. Just for info, it supposedly going to get worse over the next week or two. We always get it this time of year.

So has it landed in New Longton yet Natalie?
I was in Bamber Bridge until about 4pm & there was nothing to speak of then. Here (just south of Lancaster), it's much the same now but colder!

Snurrr, as it's called over the Pennines in Yorkshire.
As for "we always get it this time of year", it's Winter, it's Great Britain, get over it!.

We have had a 'dusting' of snow here in Essex. Not much (about 1/2") but it is staying put.

It's been bitterly cold today. Had to go out to the local shops in the village. Made the mistake of wearing leather gloves! When I got back I could hardly feel my fingers - made a nice hot mug of tea to thaw them out. Learnt my lesson - when I went out later, I wore thermal woollen gloves with elasticated wrist bands.

Do you daftees not check the rest of the forum first for similar threads before you start another one on the same topic? :eyebrows:

Try looking at the Abstract Gallery section and on the 'it is hot on Oz' thread in Abstract Chat, and see what you find! ;)

And Stan started another seperate fooking thread about snow earlier, too!! Look, people, first to see what's already been posted, before you post something else that's almost identical..........

Maybe it's just me but when it's minus 21 outside the last thing I generally think of doing is to go for a walk in the woods. Unless I am out of beer and there is an off-licence in there somewhere...

Snow: It beats me why pioneering people like to drag a very heavy sledge through frozen snow and icy winds and very low temps just to get to the north or south poles, suffering frost bight etc along the way? I mean its bad enough hiking your way homewards to a warm fire, hot food a loving spouse, a cat'dog to greet you but whats at the end at either south or north poles... some other country's flag and no pub to celebrate? I guess if you want snow then take your pick of Arctic circle or Antarctic... I guess the same goes for being stuck to the side of a snow covered mountain, high up wondering 'why am I doing this'?

Snow and cold have their attraction for some I guess :)

My local town is Callington and there was around 4 inches of snow at 5.00am. A half mile past Callington towards Liskeard the snow suddenly ended and it was pouring with rain solidly then with not a single flake of snow to be seen until I got into work at Liskeard, so that's where the warm/cold boundary was. Up on Bodmin Moor above Liskeard the snow was chucking it down so I was driving in a white-out

Love driving at that time of the morning before all the nitwits who cannot cope with driving on snow and ice venture out onto the roads.

Marco
20-01-2013, 13:22
Indeed, Tim, and if it hadn't been Natalie, or someone else I knew who would've taken the remarks in the spirit in which they were intended, I wouldn't have posted in that way - it's called having a bit of banter with someone you know well!

Any chance of an apology, Stephen, for being a daftee and jumping to the wrong conclusion? :)

Marco.

Mr Kipling
20-01-2013, 13:24
Yes, I know Marco. That's the thing about humour - it varies so greatly. Obviously you didn't see it in my posting. And going by the number of postings under her own name, Natalie could, in a sense, be said to be a "new girl". Forgot the quotation marks last time.

Marco
20-01-2013, 13:28
I didn't see it in your posting, Stephen, because there were no smilies to indicate that there was any humour. That's what those little winky things are for, you know!! ;)

Aside from that, you should know that I often take the piss like that. You've been here long enough to have sussed that out, mate. You should also have known that Natalie is Dom's partner (at NWA) and has been on AoS for years - either that or you've been asleep during your 462 posts! :D

I've yet to use smiles Marco. I only have my mobile for internet access, which is a bit of a chore (I have to use two browsers to check if a posting gets sent) so I use the minimal of actions to save time and aggravation. It's a right pain texting a reply, only for it to get lost, which happens.

I'm aware of who Natalie is, but again I was referring to her own personal post count.

Humour, it's a personal thing. On a rare occassion I like to have a pop at you on family run fish and chip business. No harm meant and I don't imagine you see anything in it - "Codfather". (Well, it amuses me.)

Stephen, our little misunderstanding is water under the bridge, mate. You'll get used to my little 'quirks'... Oh, and the day you see me 'offended' by any reference to chips shops, shoot me!! :D

Simple question of economics. Whenever I try to save for a laptop - it goes for something else. Last Christmas I got one for my sister rather than myself - because I'm a nice man! I know someone has posted about his £15 laptop but when I look I never seem to see anything. Been thinking about a tablet. But I think this is straying a tad from the original posting. . .

Interesting thread...

It's going to drop down to -9C in the next couple of nights over here; but... no snow. Personally, I prefer to have snow if it's going to be this cold. It gives me something to do outside. It has just had a third choke fitted to tighten up the bass, sounds very good for it's miserly 2.5 watt output, also has got NOS 1945 GE smoked glass valves fitted which are the best 2a3's I've heard so far, bass shy it ain't, everything on it is Audio Note components, looks a bit like Frankenstein's monster amp but who cares

I thought you might be older Jon due to the vintage avatars you have been using. It doesn't really account for the tank top though, does it. Funny you should mention comb-overs. A couple of weeks ago someone got on the bus sporting one. I've seen him before, but not for some time. It had me thinking that I'd not seen any others for years and that it's probably a dying artform. I don't suppose younger generations would bother. Anyway. . .

Did you have the 767 preamp? Did it work ok? I bought a faulty one that someone had attempted to modify. Doing a search, it seems to be not an ideal match with some amps due to its 100K output impedence. It also appears to have a design flaw which limits L.F. output. I haven't really tried it out yet.
