Really only needs to be 50W+ and have a half decent phono stage. Clean sounding, not woolly.

Same sort of era as and a good match with my Minstrels would be good too. Anybody know what amps were used to voice Minstrels ?

Budget to about £200. Do you have / know of anything ?

Thanks folks.

If you buy this, I look forward to your opinion on this amp. I happen to also own Minstrels too.

Enjoy!

This amplifier is superb....very very rare..I originally sourced this amp for Tommy...and had it in my system for a week...sheer power......
I should by all rights dig him in the ear for letting this go for £200.00...It is in very nice condition and sounds sublime...The phono stages are the best I've heard (integrated)...Oh and it is actually 85 watts per side at 8 ohms and 110 watts per side at 4 ohms...

When I had minstrels I used them with a Naim Nait 3R & Exposure X with pleasing results... The latter is better than the former but the biggest surprise was when I dropped a Denon PMA-250II into the system for a laugh & it sounded exactly the same as the Expo

Anyway, that PMA-850 is a beaut!

I've often heard that the PMA-250 is a bit of a gem, you could get hold of them for peanuts not so long ago too. :)

That PMA-850 looks very interesting indeed - reckon that would work a dream with my little ProAcs which do need an amp which isn't too clinical (the Sony is just about right, although I'm always open to ideas if it means a genuine improvement). :)

If the 850 is the huge lump from the late 70's, all I can say is that it was an integrated favourite of ours, although not as popular because Technics, Pioneer and Sony were far more established brands in the UK at the time :(

Also, look out for a Myryad MI-120, preferably with phono stage. Smooth sound, plenty of power for the Minstrels and proper output protection should you short the terminals accidentally...
