Hi folks.

Should have done this sooner but jumped straight in with a couple of posts before Marco pointed out that I hadn't said 'hi' and that with a lack of signature, no-one had the faintest idea who I was...

Anyway, hopefully the signature's sorted (thanks Marco), so now a little about me.

I've been obsessed with music and hifi since I started buying second-hand kit with paper-round money at the age of about 12. Since then it's gone through bonkers ups (full MF Nuvista setup with Townshend supports, Kimber cables and Sonus Faber Extrema speakers), depressing lows (sounds via a computer with typical PC speakers), and has now settled comfortably somewhere in the middle (see signature).

I'm a 'twiddler' by nature and having now got my dream speakers (with exception of the Extremas mention above), my attention has now turned to my newly acquired SL-1210.

If over the coming months, some of my decisions seem slightly odd, or more possibly a waste of money (I *may* go round the houses with fiddling, spending money on the way and end up at the 'logical' end point anyway), that's just me.

Fortunately, I am luck enough to be with a wonderful lady who is not only willing to let me indulge in my hobby, she also loves music herself, appreciates decent sound (I often come home to find her sitting in front of the system with a selection of records) and even tries to look interested when I start talking hi-fi gibberish.

So that's me.

I am lucky indeed to have found someone who doesn't do anything other than laugh at me when she sees 'You are currently watching 32 random music/hi-fi related items' on my eBay summary on the computer...

What sort of music am I into?.....

The easiest way to describe my taste would be a 'bit of everything', with my only major requirement being (and this is very much a subjective matter) that there has to be some talent involved.

So this means everything from Carole King and classic Motown, through to Metalica, The Propellorheads, White Lies, Elbow and Florence and the Machine. Am also doing my utmost not to have my music collection get stuck in generational 'time-warp' just because 80's were my formative years when I'd rather buy music than clothes.

Also, even as an 'audiophile', I just want my system to make the music I like sound as good as possible.

I remember a classic experience many years ago at the HNRR HiFi show at the Penta Hotel in the the Avantgarde Acoustic room. They were playing what I would described as (apologies to jazz enthusiasts) 'avantgarde' jazz, and other than a couple of guys sitting in the front row with their eyes shut, the massive room was empty. Apropos of nothing, they stuck on 'Take California' by The Propellorheads (yes, that's how I discovered them) at a Spinal Tap-like 11 out of 10 and within 30 seconds, the room was packed.

Which goes to show something:- Everyone loves a good tune. :)

Love the Propellorheads too...Love their take on the On her Majesties Secret Service theme (my fave bond movie and music).

Once at a show I heard this ethnic drum and bass music....loved it, the guy I was with hated it. Safri Duo was the name of the Australian group.
