I have heard few systems utilizing this principle and have always been very impressed. Especially the tightness and the grip of the bass and overall dynamics without any harshness have been something that will remember for a long time. Also like the idea of some adjustability from the PSU point of view. However the principle is not so popular than you might think and thus it has been difficult to audition speakers using it.

Many times have been thinking that my "last" speaker could be some field coil driver(s) e.g some solution from Supravox or then the Altec 604 based unit by Wolf Von Langa http://www.kilimanjaro-series.com/kilimanjaro-series/a604.html

Have AoS members experience of field coil speakers?

I've heard some vintage german ones at meet a few year ago, they brought some positive reactions, most really liking the sound, I thought they were good.

There are many who think an energised speaker has a better magnetic field. the trouble is it not so easy to test field coils against PM speakers as you need exactly the same speaker, with a cone equally run in or the same usage, as there are many varibles with speakers the type of magnet being only one.

You have the Voxativ speakers that were reviewed favorably in Hifi Critic last year:
