This is the front end of my system so far. I hope that there are changes afoot during 2013 but in truth, who really knows...?

I use a Musical Fidelity VLPS phono stage that I am not entirely happy with but I don't know why however I hope to upgrade to a Graham Slee Era Gold V this year if finances will allow. Last year I changed my standard Chinese valves for Genalex Gold Lions at a total cost of around two hundred quid and bought a pair of Celestion F28's to replace Dali Ikon 1's.

Extremely well built upsampling 24/192 CD player from China. The only problem as usual with Chinese hi-fi is that it won't work on UK mains so had to have a UK transformer fitted at extra cost.

I have now owned it from new (2006) and absolutely love it. It has clarity and power like CD tends to and also produces a very good stereo effect. There are two switchable filters, sharp and soft, with neither being radically different in their approach.

My plan for the future is to carry on using it but as a CDT with the main duties being done by an Audiolab M-DAC.

As far as I am aware, the player is based upon a Philips VAM12 but I don't know very much about the electronics. In fact, I don't know very much at all about it. I love the sound but then my priority is vinyl

I am very familiar with he Original though as i have had the MkII meself!
It's really an outstanding CD player!
On the Mk II you could switch between two DAC's, one for HDCD decoding and one 24/192khz capable. (Burr Brown PCM1792 i believe, same as in ARC Ref7 etc) Same on this one?
Sold it as i wanted something to play my SACD's on, but the Marantz SA15-S1 left me missing the Original on all accounts except for the SACD part..

Mr GTV Man, it is switchable between HDCD and 24/192 and uses a Burr Brown 1792 DAC apparently. It also uses a Philips VAM 12 laser pickup and Burr Brown 1732 for HDCD. It also uses a CD-7 servo system whatever that is.

I love the sound of it and would miss it a lot if it weren't here. I have had it for six years and it is like an old friend to me.

I understand where you are coming from regarding the playing of SACD's. I have quite a few and only a very cheap little Sony to play them on.

At the same time I bought the Original I also bought a Yarland Pro 200SE valve amplifier which was 300B SET. This didn't fare as well as the Original though and after a year or so developed bright blue flashes in the 300B's on switch on. In truth, I should've got someone from here to take a look at it but the guy I got to examine it told how all of the internal voltages were all over the place. I eventually sold it as a chassis for a project. I still adore the 300B SET sound. It is sublime.

You could do with levelling that turntable asap.
Having it like that must be causing havoc with regard to antiskate :eyebrows:

A couple more pics of my system so far. It would appear that the DAC's in my CD player are better than I at first thought.
