Has anyone picked up one of the recent remasters and compared it to the "original" CD ?

I've only ever had it on vinyl and want to get it on CD as well so was wondering which one to pitch for ?

I have the SACD remaster which is truly dreadful when compared to the original vinyl. Some may like it but I certainly don't. I am then again comparing to original vinyl. One thing I will say on a positive note though, the guitars on the SACD sound surprisingly good.

I'am waiting until it gets repackaged another 10 times before i take the plunge.

One thing I would like to ask though whilst we are on this subject is, Why oh why do the record companies insist on rehashing these classics and doing such a Godawful job of it...? The obvious answer is for more money I guess but why are these rehashed versions so bloody dire...?

Maybe after the tenth time they'll actually get it right or maybe they should have let Alan Parsons do a proper job.

I think the sound quality is very good

The original album was compressed to death and so the sound quality has always been very poor. These new versions do not do anything to make it any better.

It's good enough for me, I've plenty of more modern CD's that sound worse.

Really? It's so well thought of in terms of recording quality.

It would appear that they changed producers half way through the recording which ended up a complete dogs dinner. Had they not done so it may well have been as you say.

Of course what really counts is that you like it :)

Im almost convinced that people who think remastered vinyl issues are bad they need a new stereo becuase mine sound great. ;)

I was convinced of this anyway, the last time i heard a bunch of so called top notch systems

The remastered CD has a different mix: the background voices are more prominent. I love it!

I have the original vinyl, the '95 (or so) remastered CD, and the latest 2011 remastered CD...

For me the 2011 CD's the one I prefer...more weight and detail :)
