God I really hate Coldplay sometimes. :finger:

They look like a right bunch of worthless twats basking in the smug glow of selling out all the biggest arenas all over the world. I really hate smugness of any kind. :wanker:

Their music is fairly repetitive stadium rock anthem fare for the new millenium. Full of energy and colour, but ultimately bland, futile and empty.

So why the feck have I just bought a Coldplay live cd ???
Probably so I can sing along to "Paradise" or some shite like that ...

I feel like I have just shagged a cheap whore and feel dirty and shamed.

gotta admire them though , multi award winning music netting them plenty of cash!!!! , i own a lot of coldplay ,and will admit that i prefer the album tracks , they have plenty of reason to be smug , i think with their success i would find it hard not to be smug.

Smug maybe but although they are not the best musicians they do write a great song....thier new live album cd/dvd is excellent IMO and on the dvd the band come across as decent honest and hardworking guys who as they say themselves got lucky.

I fucking love Coldplay....:ner:

Isn't it the cheap whore who is supposed to feel like that...?:)

Friend of one of my brothers had the chance to sign Coldplay. Turned it down. After they made it big my brother asks hin if he feels bad.

'Nah', he says. 'It's bedwetters' music'.

Dont buy there stuf (soul and reggae for me), but loved Clocks, didn't think the more recent Paradise was too bad either - my girls liked that one too. Chris Martin, Seems a fairly wholesome, decent guy...

Great songs but the shitest recording quality of any big name band.

X&Y is an affront to all the we strive for in hi-fi reproduction. I simply know of no worse modern recording.

Got to agree with the sentiment.

I feel the same about U2...pompous, self-important etc

I have a copy of:

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41xQLknZdYL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Picked up in a charity shop for £1, it might be anodyne, but I'm not complaining.

It's comforting and pleasant, so maybe it is a bit like fucking a 'cheap whore' (not that I would know), but I don't feel too bad about listening to it.

Played the Coldplay Live cd for the first time today ( for my son, you know ;) )

I have to admit that the cd has a decent set of songs on it, all very competently played. But, and it's a big but, the sound is an ABSOLUTE ABOMINATION. Is this really the best they could do? Recorded shockingly loud and compressed to shite, it's as flat as a steam-rollered turd. The audience noise is also mixed at a ridiculously high level. I think they must have hired a chimpanzee to do the mix. :mental:

Just to start educating my son in the ways of the world, I then put on a 35 year old live album by REO Speedwagon - "You get what you play for". Now before you start taking the piss, these guys were a great act back in the '70s - superb musicians and hard rockin' live. The sound is full of life with decent dynamic range and the guitars just sound awesomely powerful. Now that's what I call a live album!

I'm a big fan of Scrobbling via Last.fm and the service has now been running for 10 years. They have just published the 100 most played band's during the last 10 years . . . . . . . . and the winner is . . . . . .

If you want to see the top 100 its here;
http://www.last.fm/bestof/10years/artists

The most played song is Nirvana - "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

Told you. Their engineer should be taken outside and shot. It would be better for everybody.

Classy :)

Dave, up until now I always thought 'Cold Play' was fiddling with yourself in the seclusion of an outside dunny in the middle of winter around zero temperature. I get an education everyday on the AoS :)

Last time I shagged a cheap whore, I felt pretty good afterwards. :eyebrows:

The following morning when the itching started wasnt quite so wonderful.

I do agree about them being a bunch of twats though.

Poor old Coldplay, a band that seems to be loved so much by the masses, yet hated by the AoS community

I'm not a fan myself, but Parachutes was a great album. But TBH I don't think I hate any artist (well, maybe Adele, but its her I don't like, not her music) and I don't really understand a hatred for music at all, does it mean that if you don't like it you hate it?

I'm definitely not a hater, I just wish they had given sound a more important role.

I'm with Martin. I'm quite relaxed about Coldplay but the quality of their recordings are abysmal.

They're all millionaires so how come none of them has a decent Hifi system?

They're all musicians so how come they can't hear that their albums sound shite?

Don't the people who produce their albums, engineers etc have any self respect?

Parachutes: in my top 3 albums, absolutely love it.
Rush of Blood to the head: not quite as good but brilliant none the less
X&Y: more of a singles/pop album
Everything after that, not really heard in depth, some good singles.

I'm with you Martin. X&Y is probably my favourite album, but Parachutes follows close behind. :)

For me Oasis have the same problem. They're even dire live the only time I saw them! The guy on the mixing desk must have been deaf or stoned!

I like coldplay , production is truly dreadful though ! The latest album is compressed and overblown to hell .

I don't hate any music genre but I am indifferent to certain kinds of music which are not to my liking... I'm pretty sure this goes for a great many of us. I'm also pretty darn sure that there are many on here who don't like, or may I say, HATE the type of music I listen to but we all live in a world of differences from sharia law that would impose a total ban all types of music to illegal raves that go onto private property and wantonly destroy and devastate in their name and enjoyment of their music and vibes. Its 'diffy strokes for different blokes, folks!', I would say.
What I do hate is beef and horse hamburgers from Tescos sold along side cheapo CDs that help put HMV into receivership :(

I'm off to warm my hands :D

isuckedmandelsonslemons
16-01-2013, 13:24
HMV going into receivership had nothing at all to do with Tesco. HMVs shops resemble a badly lit car boot sale with loud, shite music and disinterested staff. The range of CDs is dire and overpriced.

As for Tesco's burgers being 29% horse meat, I'm guessing that's better than the shit they normally put in.

Tesco's day will come.

Unlikely. Also too big to fail apart from the disastrous effect on employment and the economy. Anyway what do you expect if you buy their cheapo cheapo burgers. I rarely eat burgers since the mad cow disease scare and only occasionaly buy their premium variety. Anyway some of their customers obviously like horse meat and isn't it part of French cuisine? :)

As for Coldplay I am now totaly disinterested. A case of first album is best and downhill musicaly after that while popularity increased. No excuse for bad sound but their main market is now the Ipod generation hence they aim for loud and compressed. I'm sure they know what they're doing and the sound is deliberate. Oasis did it before the loudness war was invented. What a contrast with Elbow who appear to realy care about SQ and put out top quality vinyl editions.

synsei

I am happy to report that the quality of production on Elbow CD albums is pretty damn special too Paul ;)
