These look really cool in terms of small enough for cartridge / arm set up purpose. Just wondering what its dimensions are for curiosity and if any magnetic issues as often highlighted by guys here with mc's ? - Just checking ;)

I have a pair that look the same I got off the bay.Not sure if its magnetic but i put a small bussines card on then switch on so it calibrates with the weight of the card as well so not a problem.

I just picked up one of these from Maplin in London. The unit measures - 11 1/2 cms x 6 cms. The weigh plate measures - 5 1/2 cms x 5 cms.

After calibrating the unit I tried a business card and it came out exactly right.

It's a nice clear easy to read display with a protective flip lid.

Not sure it's worth as much as £34.99 but for £9.99 it's a no brainer...:)

They are magnetic and a MC will be attracted downwards giving an incorrect reading. Best stick a credit card or similar to the platform so it sticks out the back. They aren't affected by uneven loading, ie weight off the platform, the load cell still reads accurately.

Like so.

Mr Holterman might even have a couple of his new platforms in stock...They stick out the back not the side.

as SQ says u got to be careful with these units as they have a lot of metal under the weight point
... that the cartridge magnets can attract too, ...and effect the reading !

as ever use your ears for the final calibration:D

I have one that is magnetic; I use a block of polystyrene faced with card, to raise it to the correct height and get away from the steel top plate.

With a resoloution of 0.1g and unspecified accuracy you could be a long way out from the actual weight and less accurate than an old fashioned balance. Remember digital does not mean accurate, it is just a way of displaying a number.
I recently looked at a cheap Chinese inductance meter on eBay, buy the time you added up all the tolerances its deviation could almost be as large as the value I was trying to measure. They hide this by saying things like +/- 5% plus 5 dec places and the less scrupulous leave out the last bit about decimal places. So be carefull. Does it come with a 5g callibration weight? Some of the better ones do.
