Hadn’t done the sums. Lots of rain = higher water level

Quite a detour for a lot of people.
About 5 more miles for me on the bike after a day at work
Lol... Rich boys and their toys, eh? What a tit!!
Now you see I'd make a law that, due to his stupidity (or that of anyone else guilty of doing the same thing), he'd be made to recompense all the people he's inconvenienced... Let's call it £20 a head, for everyone who was delayed.
That would reduce the twat's bank balance a bit, and make him think twice about doing the same thing again!! :exactly:
I feel the same way about idiots who run out of fuel (often brainless bints), closing off a lane, and causing huge queues on busy roads, especially during rush hour. FFS, that's what a fuel gauge is for - there is NO excuse, so USE it!!
Marco.

For sure !
Now how about the damage to the bridge ?
The bridge surveyor called out on a Saturday, the fuzz, one on each side of the bridge for 8 hours ?
Good news for me is that I left sensible time for a Saturday so wasn't totally spent. There was some cursing as I doubled back on the route I had just cycled down.
Chertsey Bridge is a bottleneck and anyone has to go at least 2 miles around to the next bridge over the Thames. Real PITA if you want to go *just* the other side, so about 4 miles extra

Yup - that as well, too fooking right! He must be fined or penalised in some way; and in a way that hurts him sufficiently to prevent him doing the same stupid thing again.

Glad it wasn't too much of a nightmare for you, mate. You see, that's the difference between down where you are, and up here. Up here, we might get delayed by some farmer letting his sheep take over the road, down there you get a 'hooray' in his £500k boat, blocking a bridge! :D

We also have dickheads putting temporary traffic lights on the road either side. Completely screws up the traffic because of the bridge bottleneck. So amusing when there is no need for them and no one is even working there. Classic was the idiots fixing the permanent traffic lights just down the road. Parked their damned vans right on the T junction as they couldn't be arsed to walk about 20 yards. That was for about a week !
On the bike is easy. By car is quite a wait
I cross from built up into rural so I have the fun of both.
They are currently clearing Chobham Common of trees, doing our bit for climate change, competing with deforestation of The Amazon. Dirt all over the roads, massive trucks either blocking or coming the other way on narrow roads. Occasionally stationery.
