Lovely old pair of Harbeths in nice condition.
Come with stands spikes etc.

Did take some pics but for some reason i can't load on p/bucket.

They are basically the same as these;

Sadly grills(foam) have perished, but these can easily be bought.

Pick up from devon or possible meet en route to London.

£360.

Bloody 'ell these things go up in price  Despite this -

An absolute BARGAIN - Despite the looks, these speakers had a wonderfully open sound, with little of the old "BBC Bass Bump" I've been reading up on. You can use these with some really serious gear if you want to. The crossovers are pretty simple I think from memory and use long lasting caps so as long as these haven't been abused, they should last another thirty years or so at least...

Foam for the fronts may be available from Wilslow Audio I think or at least thin sheets that can be cut to size.

A perfect upgrade from DM2's etc and fantastic on all types of music at reasonable volume levels...

No kidding, these are really great speakers. I owned Bettys from series 1 to 4 and loved all of them :stalks:

These sold for £350 but sadly they didn't sound right so i cancelled sale.
Think tweeter is gone on one side.

If anyone wants them as they are £200.

If not i'll get a new tweeter sorted and relist on the bay.

I suspect that these are great speakers at a great price but there are a great number of us out there that don't have a car these days so look for ones that are sent by post or are within taxi distance. Just saying like...

Yeah
I would try these but dont have a car and with a return taxi ride from london I'd be able to buy a new pair of Harbs!

I suggest replacing BOTH tweeters (I think they're being made again - Audax?) as a thirty year old one will perform differently to a new sample...

FFS fellas, old knackered Spendor BC1's go for £500 these days, as do the SP1's now. At the time, the Harbeths were far "free-er" and less tight a*sed in presentation and utterly "musical" with it! Also they had the bass under resonable control, so no honk or boom. I think Spendor manufactured the crossovers for Harbeth at the time as well, and my memories of them is that they're actually fairly simple and made with good quality components - polyprop caps etc...

Dudley Harwood was one of the greatest speaker designers out there and fortunately, the legacy of research he and his colleagues left behind from their BBC years is well preserved presently.

One my tweeters went noticeably down in output. Falcon Acoustics can supply the dome/voice coils, or complete new tweeters. ( If you buy new tweeters get Falcon to check the polarity, as some are't marked ) I didn't fancy taking old tweeters apart, so I purchased two new ones. As for grilles, I got Sid Chaplin ( Traditional Radio Grilles ) to make a pair. They are superb... Harbeth supplied new badges, so the HLs look good.
As someone who owned BC1s for over 30 years (!) I agree about the sound of the Harbeths compared to the Spendors. I am keeping mine...
