Which mat?

I need a new mat but don't really know where to start; I've read the Anchromat is good, as is the Resomat and Oyaide too. There are plenty of others too. So, how do I choose?

Or should I be looking at a platter upgrade instead?

Unfortunately using the search function for 'mat' on this forum is a little tricky as I think 4 letters is the minimum requirement.

As the Funk is the cheaper option try it first and see what you think, if its not for you then try the Oyaide but I should point out that it works best with the matching BRone (a thin rubber damping mat http://www.blackrhodium.co.uk/oyaide-turntable-accessories.htm https://www.planetofsounddistribution.com/products/p/Oyaide-BR-ONE-Turntable-Mat/c/ebb09a0c1e65f88e ) underneath it and the matching weight, so its not a cheap option £550 all in but it does sound very good in my opinion.

It can be done in two stages, rubber BRone under mat + the main mat and then add the record weight later but the degree of synergy between all three items is very high so in my view its best thinking of all three as one.

Many who have moved away from the mat do not seem to have tried the Oyaide BRone which takes the metal mat's performance to a whole new level as it offers damping and full under surface contact.

I was gob smacked after trying this :eek:

Having still been unable to obtain a Funk platter I can't say how one compares to the other as the price is similar all be it one then might need to add a weight/clamp to use with the Funk option which then raises the overall price to more than the Oyaide combo.

I have yet to try this, but my friend uses another LP as a mat on his td 124 and he says the thinner ones are better, so if you have an old MFP record it's a cheap way to try it.
He trimmed off 2-3mm to make it smaller than the "playing" record so you only pick up 1 off the platter.
