hi all, id like to try a glass core optical cable, where should i be looking to get one? mark grant is always sold out and the cable talk 3 i found was too long, i just need a 1meter length, thanks jim
Have you looked on CPC's website? They have some very fancy looking opticals for far lower prices than QED and Chord Co charge for similar looking things.. Not sure if they're glass cored though.

But ship only to the USA :( .
glass is a bit better than plastic , i was a cable maker for AEI (gec cable division) (marconni) through the 70s/80s/90s, if you fit and play , they found better transfer (slightly) till you , plugged/unplugged a few times , then the glass cable tended to splinter/fracture at the ends , plastic did not suffer like this (thats why you can put up strip down your fibre optic christmas tree without fail every year) so buy glass enjoy , just keep it plugged in
But ship only to the USA :( .
Send him a message,I'm sure you can work a shipping method out.

IMHO it's evidence of 'Rip Off Britain' - the USA retailers are obliged to agree with the big manufacturers not to sell to Britain so as to preserve their very profitable high margin market. Bl**dy disgusting but big business rules!! :steam: .

I've got a Lifatec glass cable coming from the USA . They seem to know what they're about - see http://www.lifatec.com/toslink2.html

Indeed. I've bought loads of stuff from ebay sellers (and elsewhere) in the US, who advertise publically as not shipping goods to the UK.
All it took, however, was sending them a polite message, where the appropriate shipping costs were agreed, and one look from the seller at my feedback profile on ebay, and it was goods away! ;)

You may have a valid point in general, Dave, about the exporting situation to the UK, but in my experience, if you want to buy something from a seller on ebay, anywhere in the world, if you fulfil their specific requirements, 9 times out of 10, you'll get what it is you want :)

Thank you Hugo,
I like the build quality of and they have a far higher strand count than the one I am using. So I'm going to order one. Did you go for the armored SS jacket ?

No, just the ordinary silk covered version.

These are glass cored, I've had one in use for years without any problems & seems to sound okay... Bit late I know but thought it may be of interest.

Is the Sky box still set to Dolby Digital?
You need to set the output to PCM.

Lifatech is introducing an entirely new Tolsink cable.
Some how the lock up and alignment will be far improved over the standard Tolsink.
Keep in mind this company makes most of it's cables for the medical industry so there standards are pretty high.
Expect to see the new cables in 60 to 90 days as they are in the final stages of development.
