Rescued stray cat

My wife saved this "old man" a couple of weeks ago after he was found wandering about in a confused state in the middle of a busy road. It was soaked to the skin and it was one of the coldest days so far this year.

Underneath that furry exterior was just skin & bones and it weighed less than half of what would be considered a normal bodyweight.

Our Vet gave him a thorough check up and it seems that fortunately he hasn't been hit by a car (at least recently) and is about 14+ years old and suggested he'd been living rough for quite some time due to his emancipated state. His front legs are both deformed at the ankles causing him to cross his front legs when he walks and he is a little unsteady on his hind legs, although this may be due to malnourishment and therefore improve. Due to his condition, the Vet only gave him a slim chance of surviving the night.

I'm glad to say that 2 weeks on, he's putting on weight (0.4Kg) and is a very friendly cat who loves company. He seems to be stone deaf which may explain his 100db meowing when he wants food. I swear it's loud enough to wake the dead and our 5 other cats find this a bit disconcerting so there were a few hissy fits at first but they seem more tolerant of him now.

He's obviously in his twilight years and we hope make whatever time he has left warm and comfortable.

Ahh thats lovely, and he is so cute. He looks like a kitten rather than 14+ yrs. Sadly, one of my cats a tortie was killed on the 5th. I was devastated. I just wish I hadn't let her go out, but I think fate is a funny thing because due the huge void I picked a 6 month old tortie up from Manchester from the RSPCA. Her name is Treacle and I didn't get her to replace Charlie, but just to fill the void.

Apparently, she was wondering the river banks of Manchester and she almost died, the vet didn't give her much hope. Thankfully she survived, she has been with for just under 2 weeks, and she is very under weight. She is supposedly 6 months old, but we think she is more like 4 or 5, she is way to small to be spayed at the moment. I will take a pic of her and post it, but she is still a little nervous, although yesterday, Greg another member on here met her and she was quite happy with him. Anyway, I am so glad that Treacle and the old man are both doing ok. I am sure your little kitty like ours will thrive:). Good to see there are some really nice people in this world.

Looks to be a lovely old chap , I would have done the same ! In fact I did about three years ago I took in an abandoned kitten, the cat who came for Christmas , and another stray girl , both are still here and doing well , well done .

Well done sir. As an owner of 2 ex strays myself you can really tell they appreciate our warm and cosy home at this time of year. Our ginger old man 'Chester' barely crosses the doors nowadays and defends his blanket viciously.

Our other cat, a tabby, had apparently belonged to the last owner of the flat we lived in at the time who was a bit of waster and had apparently moved on and abandoned him. He'd been living off the kindness of neighbours so when we moved in and installed a cat flap all his birthdays and christmases must have come at one. He had such a nice chilled out personality letting him stay was a no brainer.

Hope your new friend has many more lives left in him!

Can't go to bed just yet 'cos next door's cat is in my spot under the folded over coverlet. "Mummy" is away until later on Boxing Day and he doesn't know what to do with himself, bless him...
