Hi
Just got an old one running...
I'm curious to know what you guys would think is the next stage up (solid state please I ve done valves).
2nd hand almost certainly.
Any unsung heroes out there to be picked up?

Can you remind me/us what it's to be used with please?
Blind recommendation would be the rare (on the used market) Myryad MI-120 integrated, purely because it shares the same electronics designer as the A60 and sounds like a bigger better and clearer version of it..

I have three A60's and quite like them, however, I prefer the sound of these:

I've got the tuner and remember the amp with affection. Not very powerful though and all will need a recap now, this amp was quite advanced in its time (1973 - 75 or so)

A60's were great, i prefered them to the 'C200'/'SA200'. if you don't want it no more gis it :eyebrows:

The C200/SA200 was pants ( a technical term ). The A60 sounded better and was reliable whereas the C200 picked up radio better than the T21 tuner..:rolleyes:

Certainly.
ATM I 'm using a Marantz 63KI and Castle "Harlech" (early stand mounters).
I ve still got to retrieve from a friend a modded Arcam A5 (he has mended it for me).
I also got a Thorens 160 super here though it needs setting up.

I've seen them for £300 on the used market (they are over fifteen years old now)...
Quad 77 integrated? Only three inputs but a lovely musical, pretty clear and eternally sweet sound so like their old valve stuff (in the best sense)..... Nobody wants them so they go for between £200 - £300.
I have to disagree with Dave and Andr'e about the C200/SA200.. The weak part by far was the preamp and this got sorted after the first batches were sold. I think it was when the input cards went phono, but it's a very long time ago. The SA200 remains in my heart a well respected power amp and I think myself that a serviced one with a modern preamp would be rather good...
I use an A60 as my daily amp driving Dittons 44's and to my ears they sound a pretty good match, though the amp has been re-capped as it went pop shortly after buying it of fleabay.
Even taking into account the cost of the re-cap I'm not sure what else is available that would be better without spending more dosh (and yes I already have a 'T' amp). Though I must admit that the DIN speaker connectors on my early model are a PITA and I would not miss them :lol:

All i said was i prefered the sound of the 'A60' ;) i just didnt like the 'C200' the 'SA200' were good power amps :)
However the 'C150' Pre/'SA150' Power :)

Any tips on remedial work for the A+R (is this the right place for such a question?).
The smoothing caps, I ve been told........ Is this a DIY job for a layman?
Who could supply those?
The amp sounds pretty nice, by the way, but do I get the impression of a trace of roughness/harshness that shouldn't be there?
It soundstages fine; I think some times it misses afew bits from the valves....maybe does few bits more in other ways.
Thoughts?

If i remember the PSU Caps are 10,000uF.. Keep to the original 35mm diameter, any larger diameter you won't get the wooden sleeve back on..

My A60 is full of Elna caps and sounds the dogs. However, there is about thirty four all in all so it's not cheap to re-cap. When done though it's a giant killer.

Quite so...and I think its pushing my (limited) soldering abilities a little too far.
It would be a fun thiing to try but I think I could easily lose more than I might gain + I have a new business venture thats going to take priority in the new year, thus I'm interested in hearing from anyone proficient with a soldering iron......maybe in the shropshire area.
(if only to replace the "smoothing" caps which I take it are the two big ones in the middle)

From what I remember, the smoothing caps (yes, they're the two big ones) are the ones that aer most likely to need replacing, and that's really not a difficult job if you've done a little soldering before.
