I thought that this would be of more interest here than on the ebay thread. Up for sale in Australia is a rare Byer T-19 three speed 16" transcription TT. Not cheap but where are you likely to find another? Just imagine the plinth you could build for this one!

Here's the link http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/COMMONWEALTH-Electri-BYER-3-Speed-16-InchTurntable-Rare-/370703399614?pt=AU_Electronics_Vintage_Electronics&hash=item564fa4fabe

I've heard two or three of these now in good plinths and they have been excellent. That one will need some TLC but I'm sure there'll be a buyer (probably German!) soon enough.

Guy - isn't that a Commonwealth Electric D12 (12" platter)?

Talking of plinths for Commonwealths, I remember reading that Frank Schroeder has one of his mounted in a two hundred pound phenolic plinth!

[Incidentally, here's a few other idler's he owns...
Lenco L75
Garrard 301
Commonwealth Electronics, both 12" and 16" platter versions
Rek-O-Kut B-16-H
Allied, 16" platter version
Deltron
Dual 1229
Neumann P2a
Orpheus Silex
Thorens TD124MkII
Schlumberger(Pierre Clement)]

This gives an idea of its size...

I can't remember the link between Byer and Commonwealth Electric, i.e. whether they were seperate companies or later merged but towards the end of it's life Commonwealth was taken over by Philips. Perhaps someone can enlighten us?

There was also Rola and Orpheus too, all very hard to resist. Like I said elsewhere, one of these Australasian idlers in a decent plinth with a Peter Riggle arm could be quite something.
