Ballantyne MX24 amps

I've always found these Ballantyne amps to have such an elegant chassis solution, keeping the power supply away from the output stages and still maintaining an integrated solution.

I gather they were mostly used at drive in cinemas and, using the 805 triode put out somewhere around 200 watts. They have taps suitable for "normal" speakers ( 6,10 & 15 ohm IIRC) as well as 100v line outs.

The cages are essential though as there's just under 1.5Kv on the anodes of the 805's, enough to fry an elephant!

They look to be in excellent condition given their age.

I'll watch the bidding with interest - less than a day to go: anything could happen.

They're very nice Andy and not that expensive at the moment

Used in cinema's means probably more than twelve hous a day, so if these amps haven't been thoroughly serviced, they're going to need it sharpish.

I bet they're very good once fettled though, impedance matching to speakers notwithstanding (many modern squeakers are 4 - 6 ohms over much of the range...)

The matching preamps were very nice too.

Fisher (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fisher-80-AZ-EL37-12AT7-12AU7-MONO-TUBE-AMP-amplifier-/230897631506?pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item35c2924112) make some nice amps, the seller has a few more nice bits but think the price on his Leak stereo 20 is a bit optimistic

The Fisher monoblocs are very nice. There's a large cult following for Fisher gear in Hong Kong and it wouldn't surprise me if they ended up there.

These rarely come up for sale and whilst they do command a premium over the 930, the price for this one is a little ambitious.

They look fantastic! I see someone from Beijing is already interested.
