The AoS Christmas Competition 2012

It will be a photographic competition and we will be accepting submissions of photos on the theme of 'The Art of Sound'

You can read or interpret whatever you like into what that theme might mean to you.

RULES

You may submit one photo for the competition.

It must be hosted in such a way that it displays properly on the forum page - no links, no thumbnails. (If you need to know how to do that, then look for the tutorials that are posted as 'Stickies' in the Gallery Forum. If you still can't do it, then ask a moderator).

All members are eligible to enter. Moderators and Admin people may not enter competitively - they may contribute a photo to the thread, but it will not be eligible for the prize.

Your photo must have been taken by you and specifically for this competition. So no copying and pasting from the website of the National Gallery please!

Deadline for submissions will be 9am 6pm on Christmas Eve - 24th December 2012 (UK time). Late submissions will not be entered into the judging process.

The judging will be carried out by a vote of the Politburo of the People's Republic of the Lilac Curtains.

The winner will be announced sometime after 6pm on Christmas Eve - 24th December 2012 (UK time).

By entering, you are agreeing to allow use of the photo by The Art of Sound Forum.

The prize will be a £25 HMV Record Voucher.

Well I'm not entering for two reasons

1 I'm completely crap with a camera

2 I never win anything anyway

Bah humbug :ner:

Well, those two comments have got this off to a fantastic start - anyone else want to piss on the cornflakes?

Well I think its a great idea Chris and a great gesture from AoS too, I can't read all the below comments though (you know why :eyebrows:)) but I'm not surprised.

I only have a crappy compact camera, but I'll give it a go ;)

Yes, this is a brilliant idea and one which makes AoS such a great forum.

Sadly, I won't be able to contribute: at the moment I have a crappy camera; I shall be too busy entertaining guests, and the world is coming to an end on the 21st.

But good luck to everyone who takes part. :)

Often it's not the camera but the way it is used.

C'mon all, have a shot at it.

Yes, come on guys. Any camera will do, even the one on your phone will be fine. We're not looking for David Baileys here, just a good shot in the spirit of the theme.

So let's be having all of you!

Guys, we're going to need a good few more entries if the prize is to be awarded (nowhere near enough at the moment), so get cracking with your pics if someone wants this voucher :exactly:

We will need at least 20 decent entries submitted before the closing date on Christmas Eve!

Marco.

I have been pacing up and down thinking about what would encapsulate the "Spirit of AoS" in a photograph :hmm:

Perhaps I could pose the dogs in front of a speaker looking alert and attentive to the sweet sounds of Joe Loss and his orchestra maybe? You know what they say about working with children and animals . . . . . . :nono:

I have some photos of audiophools in various states of stupor attending some of my bakeoffs, but they may offend delicate sensitivities

:idea::idea::idea::idea::idea::idea: Marco in his basque and stockings. Now that IS the "Spirit of AoS" for sure!

Well, thanks to everyone who submitted pictures for the competition.

The judges have convened and decided that the winner should be (in reverse order) MikaK

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8354/8294432225_6188d63d98_b.jpg

His photo was chosen for the way he managed to weave the Christmas theme through the whole piece, while also making a fascinating comment on the plight of the under-employed masses in the context of the current socio-economic climate by combining themes of the desperation of being trapped within the seasonal labour market juxtaposed with the architectural backdrop of luxury consumer commodities, the subtle, subdued lighting and focussing effects conveying the threatening mood of the times.

Actually, that's a load of old tosh - we just liked the combination of hi-fi, dafteedom, red wine and cheesiness- Now that's The Art of Sound!!

Mika, well done!
Marco will be contacting you shortly about your prize.

Thanks a lot folks.
