Hello everyone,

My name is Alex Miller and I am a 17 year old audio enthusiast.

Gear:
-CD player:Cambridge CD6
-DAC: Beresford Caiman (gatorised yesterday!)
-Amp: Audiolab 8000a, pre IAG (upgraded by RedHillAudio)
-Speakers: TDL Studio 2's
-Cables: DIY interconnects using solid copper coax and CMC copper RCA's and Mission-Cyrus solid core speaker cable

As you can tell, everything except the Caiman is quite a bit older than me and was put together over the last 3 years, starting with the Audiolab being past down by my dad and a pair of Acoustic Energy 100i's I bought off eBay with £50 I had saved up :D A nice start the the HiFi world I like to think :)

As I am not a normal teenager who listens to "music" through Dre beats, Bose Docking stations or give-away earphones from Apple, I don't tend to listen to the normal trash they play on Radio 1, but enjoy anything from John Coltrane and Dave Brubeck to Kasabian, Biffy Clyro and everything inbetween. All apart from 'Dub-Step' of course ;)

I am studying A-level electronics at college and intend on taking a degree in electronic engineering next year if all goes well. I am a keen DIY'er and have built various Guitar FX pedels for my Bass guitar rig.

Hi Alex

Great introduction , Thanks

Glad to see some young blood coming up through the ranks :)

Hi Alex, yes some nice kit you have there and encouraging that a "youngster" is concerned with good sound quality. I had a 1995 vintage 8000A which was (IMO) a great amp. My mate bought it off me a good few years ago and it is still going strong.

I also have a CD6, but it has a fault which is that it has no real bass output. John Westlake offered to have a look at it for me, but I would have had to send it Prague where he lives :(

Enjoy your time here.

Rob.

I guess I could take some photo, even though most people wont be happy that I keep the TDL's in a small room :/

Hi Alex,

A very warm welcome to AoS! It's great to see you here, as a member of our younger generation, and very refreshing to know that you both love music and care about how it sounds! That's a nice little system you've got :)

Try and stick around and offer your input in both the hi-fi and music sections of the forum, and we'll also offer you any advice or help that you need

Hello Alex and welcome.

Nice to see you having original TDL Transmission Line Speakers. Had a pair of TDL Studio 0.75M in the past and liked them very much.

Wish I was 17 again :(

Hi Alex, welcome to AoS. And I see that the Caiman upgrade is in good company ;).
Mind you, you have more kit than I had at 17.

Nice one Alex, at 17 I just had a turntable, amp and speakers, but was really happy as I just loved music :)

Here's to many happy years ahead of music enjoyment for you

Hi Alex,
Here's another warm welcome for you. It's great to see some young blood coming into the forums to keep the old folks on their toes.
Nice system.

Lots to learn here and no matter what you know, or what kit you own your opinion will always be as good as anyone else's on this forum.

Cheers

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome :)

I was actually looking for some 0.75Ms or 1Ms when I found these. There had only been a few Studio 1's for sale over 4 months of searching and most weren't in the best condition . When I bought these, it was my first bid for anything on ebay. It felt like I had two Christmas's that year :D

A warm welcome from me as well Alex.

You definitely have better gear than I did at your age. Well done!

Nice tastes in music too! :)

Hello young un, well its certainly better than the matsui mini system i had at your age

I'm also a bass player and have my fx built for me by a mate. Let us know what your rig is. I'm a Fender Jazz man and sometimes gig with a 5 string Ibanez BTB. I have Line 6 amps but seriously interested in the new TC electronic stuff, class D amps for bass! I play in a Floyd tribute and use Sansamp, Boss DD3, with a homebrew phaser and sovtek muff clone occasionally. Sometimes if I'm feeling lazy I'll just the Line 6 onboard fx.

I've got a small rig atm, my bands been 'on & off' recently due to the guitarist moving college. I have a Squier Pro-tone 5 string bass with a Ashdown MAG300 Evo2 http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/b622/AlexanderRobin/IMAG0098_zps9002a2cb.jpg I would die to even own any TC electronics but part-time jobs don't really stretch to that budget :( I was looking at some 41hz amp kits the other day and I think my next step is to make my own head and buy a decent cab but i'll have to start saving! :D
