As always, YMMV... ;)
To me, iTunes does exactly what it should, that is; organise my music based on it's meta data and allow to swiftly select albums, artists or playlists, or create playlists.
I use iTunes mainly in Mac environment, but also on a PC. I remote control the librarly using Apple Remote on my iThingy. I do have an AirPort Express and one AppleTV and therefore can direct audio and video streams from my itunes library to either "renderer"
To get best audio quality and still maintain usability/accessibility i use a MacMini with Amarra for bypassing operating system audio functions and a bit perfect output via an M2Tech Hiface USB2SPDIF converter and then along to my DAC. Still controlled beautifully from my iPad and Apple Remote.

It' allows me to edit information easily, and is quick and logical (well, okay some errors may occur ;)) when maintaining my library of music (and movies).

To me the interface got better, but i also can agree that it was a little confusing at first.
To me the most used view, is the Album view. Single click for selection and info, double click to play? What more can you ask? :eyebrows:

And no, i am not an Apple employee or have any financial interests in "those areas of the woods"...

I think they had to change it due to competition from the likes of JRiver, some Apple users have actually switched back to Windows because of JRiver and JRemote. I don't have any experience of it myself, but from the Techradar review it looks greatly improved to me ;)

A new UI is always a tough decision and some will love it, others will hate is as we see here, change is never easy if its not something you have asked for, but in today's technological world you can't avoid it.

The new interface is nice if you have all your artwork sorted.

The 'songs' view can almost look like the old view with tweaking. I'd be happy with the new one when I get the last of my missing artwork sorted. Beats 'Coverflow' at any rate.

My favourite interface is the Foobar one; its a shame it doesn't work natively on OSX. I have it running under Wine, but I'm not sure it's bitperfect that way.

The new iTunes works nicely with PureMusic though...

I've read the other thread and I'm not totally sure what the OP doesn't like about it. Perhaps it's just a case of getting used to it? There are ways to alter it to your liking but those options might be in different places so you have to dig around a bit.

Personally, I've only installed it on another partition as I knew it was a major design upgrade and my library is important to me so I will want to check it out before going for it.

I think it looks nice. I like the visual aspect so I do tend to use the album view. I think the new expanded album view is very nice; very clever too. I'll have to use it a bit more before I can comment on usability.

BTW, just came to think 'bout something!
You Windows users out there, are you aware that you can, natively, make iTunes use WASAPI audio output? For greatly improved playback, that is...
You have to install Quicktime separately though to get to the the setting via it's Preferences.

Agreed, it is not as versatile and configurable as J River Media Center, but i still like the iTunes interface the best. Not so cluttered and 1990's as the competition...

Initially I didn't like it either but I think that was a bit of a snap judgement. Now I really like and much prefer it to the old interface.
