View Full Version : Vacuuming kit and racks

Before I go looking for attachments does anyone already use an attachments that is just right for cleaning kit and racks and difficult to get into places ?

I have way more dust than I would expect and the kit gets covered too quickly.

I use an antisatic mop on a stick which works quite well.
Drawbacks are having to go outside every 'bang' so it takes a while
Then I vacuum around the edges of the Mana racks with a brush head fitted on the vacuum to pick up the remaining dust. Awkward but ok

I'd like a soft, flexible item that will reach further, go under the kit so really thin with the ability to vary the suck

Maybe someone has ideas of something that could be made........:eyebrows:

Cheeky Al !

Mike, the dust protects the delicate surfaces of your kit - a protective coating. Just keep it off the heatsinks..

While I am interested in going inside at some time and cleaning very carefully the main thing is the outside.
It builds up too quickly and looks appalling.

Thinking of the PPP and Naim 500 they are open at the top and dust could go in there and cause some problems. Cannot be good for any vinyl decks either

I can probably bring the total dust volume down by running a fan driven ioniser I have

Wonder if the emulsion on the ceiling and the walls is breaking down as I've never seen white/grey dust like this before

Ionisers do work - I used to have a little pyramid shaped one that you sat on silver foil and it attracted all the crud to it - amazing how much builds up - they also freshen up the air in the room which is handy, especially if you smoke. I lost it moving house but you have now reminded me to buy a new one. It's a lot less hassle than dusting all the time, which, lets face it, is really something that the girls should be doing anyway :eyebrows:

I have a monster about the size of a big power amp.
Sucks air - and dust in through a filter then pushed it out over the needles (must clean them)

That filter can make a nice little blanket of dust. Reminds me ought to clean the filter too

The curd that gathers around ionisers is quite amazing

There's dust and there's 'specially treated audio' dust. The latter can only be obtained from Peter Belt or from Russ Andrews.

I use a large round painting brush to "dust" my kit.

Don't hoover up any magic 'wuffle dust', or remove the stain left from where John Watson blessed your Mana stands, otherwise they won't work!!

The fittings are much smaller than they look in the picture.

Does the job, also good for difficult to reach places such as between car seats etc.

Thanks
For cleaning inside pcs I guess.
I'm after something quite a bit larger for the externals.
Will report back if I find anything sutiable.
Perhaps I adapt something

That's not what you asked for originally :)

The slim PC cleaning attachments will fit under the Hi-Fi kit if the feet are tall enough and will reach all the small places a full size nozzle cant reach.

To dust the outer casing a Dyson soft dusting brush works well
http://www.dyson.co.uk/accessories/s/soft-dusting-brush/softdustingbrush.aspx

£20 although might be on ebay or Amazon for less.

Ideally a thin/slim attachment and a Dyson soft dusting brush to clean everything.

This is my current tool which does a fair job - after I've gone over with the anti static mop. Getting to the back of the racks and kit is very difficult though.

I saw something years ago that looked a good possibultiy. Long and thin with a brush along it's edge. I'll keep looking

A 9.0 amp motor 5.0 HP portable shop vac with a step down reducer 1.7/8 to 1.1/4 so you can use the brush and crevice tools from the smaller hose size and you can suck a cock roach through a pin hole in the wall, the 6 meter cord is the perfect size and the hose is plenty long enough for any job, the hose will also fit the exhaust port to become a powerful leaf blower ,it even comes with a muffler just like a car /what a beast .

I love mine for cleaning nearly everything.

We've had the worst dust ever since the house was refurbed.
Assume the walls, floor and ceiling were not properly sealed, if at all
The dust in my office at work is different to home. So my skin must also be different

I use that small brush attachment after I have dusted over with a static mop
That seems to be about as good as I can go for now without doing mods to a hose or pipe.
Getting into the back of the Mana racks and kit also needs CCTV and the expertise of a gynaecologist

Fits any canister vac 1 1/4 hose size and everyone sells the hose adapters if your hose is bigger.

I never let a vacuum cleaner anywhere near my rack - am convinced the brush will leave fine scratches behind ...

Instead, I like to "dust and go" :eyebrows:

Dust just sticks to these cloths like glue - I keep one behind the rack and give it a quick once-over every couple of days ...

I think I have a similar cloth.
Main use is a static mop about 18" long
I would use both and a gentle vac attachment

Shop Vac makes it,the brushes on the little attachments are very very fine and soft.

If you cant find it on line, I'll do my best to help you get the set from here in the U.S.

He's not an anti politician, he is just impossible to understand.
California is in a major debt crisis, worst than Greece and we are going to build a high speed train to nowhere that will cost more than 0ne hundred billion to build and even with out factoring a staff to run and maintain it,it would take 30 years to pay back the construction costs if it ran 100% full 24/7.
We are now the highest taxed state in the U.S.
Everyone is in massive debt and company's are all leaving to Texas because they can't afford our crazy taxes and regulations!
There are buildings sitting empty with the windows covered in plywood.
People are walking away from there homes, there is a ton of forclosers.
And now for the first time ever more people are leaving the state than coming.

Worse than Greece and for an economy of real size as well
I've not heard anything about CAs problems

Looks like problems from 2003 onwards, possibly earlier
I was looking at CA through Hollywood coated glasses perhaps
Sounds like a financial spaghetti mess of epic proportions

Dust is not an issue here. My cat's tale never stops swishing, so I just hold her over the spot in need of a clean and she does the rest. For delicate gear like tubes, I just put on some slower music, techno trance works well. That slows the swish rate for delicate cleaning. Her tail is just the right size to fit between the tubes....
