Those were the days when the operating manual was a proper hardbound book with complete information on installing, operating and maintaining the equipment - including a list of all the piece parts used.

Ferrograph provided the same for their tape machines. :)

Not so these days. An "operating manual" nowadays is often no more than a folded sheet of A4. And the circuit diagram of modern audio electronics is never given!
