I have an old knob which is thoroughly warty and needs some attention.

Sorry that's not quite what I wanted to say so let me start again. I have an elderly Quad FM3 tuner which is in very nice condition apart from a clapped out knob (tuning that is)

Here's what it looks like:

http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.saturn-sound.com/images/quad%2520fm3%2520-%2520stereo%2520fm%2520tuner.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.hififorum.nl/index.php?topic%3D85.105&h=500&w=820&sz=91&tbnid=OE-GGmz7FUfG6M:&tbnh=74&tbnw=121&zoom=1&usg=__WAaj2IPeQ086GtVFrYYAMXdo9D4=&docid=EigqhoQP_f5AXM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=ecC9UKDlDcPJ0AWQ74DoBQ&sqi=2&ved=0CDQQ9QEwAg&dur=2145

Has anyone got a spare tuning knob from either a Quad FM3 or and FM4 so that I can restore its good looks? I am happy to pay a reasonable price. (well who wouldn't!)

Please PM me if you can help (or put an ad in the personal column of the Horse & Hound)

Many thanks in advance for your help

David:lol::lol:

Ii'm sure the 'FM4' is a different size! Maybe Barry could measure up for you as he has both the 'FM3 & 4' :)

Hi Andre

Many thanks. You are probably right.

I took my Quad 66 and 303 to the Huntingdon Quad hospital yesterday (same day service). The 66 is a completely different beast now. Unfortunately I cannot try the 303 until the S1's are back in commission next week but I am confident it too will have been transformed. They told me that the HT was down to 30v instead of the 70v it should be.

Thanks again.

David:)

Dada Electronics have a large collection of odds and ends from various Quads. I've just taken a look and there's certainly loads of 33 case parts. Send them an email to see if they can come up with anything...

In the meantime, ask Quad Service dept - you never know......

Hi Dave

I was at Quad only yesterday and regretably I found them to be totally and completely knobless. Good suggestion though so thank you anyway

I'm sure the 'FM4' is a different size! Maybe Barry could measure up for you as he has both the 'FM3 & 4' :)

The tuning knob on the FM4 is similar in diameter but shallower. I have measured up the knob on the FM3 tuner. The dimensions are as follows:

36mm dia X 26.5mm, drilled with a blind hole for the drive shaft 1/4" x 16mm.

There is a radial tapped hole, drilled through to the drive shaft hole, 3mm dia (1/8" ?) and takes a 3mm x 12mm (1/8" x 1/2" ?) grub screw. This tapped fixing hole is drilled 3mm from the lower edge of the knob.

I'm sure Dada will be able to help, but if not maybe you could have one made to the dimensions quoted above.

Regards

Hi barry

many thanks for that. I have been in touch with Dada but so far no joy. I will just have to keep looking.

Thank you again
