Power surges

Hi all.

We've just had a really long power surge and it made the hifi humm for about 3-4 seconds and the lights also dimmed.

Thing is, we are getting these surges more and more often, is anyone else getting these? We have had 3 of them today. The neighbors have also had this so that rules out any internal faults I guess.

I get lots of surges really big ones too, just not with the local energy supplier

We had two 30 minute power cuts on Tuesday . One in the morning and one at night .

That sounds more like a brown-out to me. The lights would probably get brighter if the voltage increased (though maybe not with CFLs) ;)

Anyway, I think I have already said enough to get Marco all excited @brown-out :lol:

Had this a few years ago. The power company put a moniter on the electricity supply for about 2weeks.
It turned out to be a faulty joint outside under the road.

We have them far too frequently up here in Kendal, so much so that I have to have a battery alarm clock as a back up the electric digital one, and a normal landline telephone as a wireless one won't work if there's no electricity.

Sometimes there are high voltage outages which knock out the electricity in this area for periods ranging from hours to a day or even more.

start from about a £100 eg dehn/abb/ciprotec and many others

That doesn't work. whatever the worm gears are doing on that shaft, only the shaft itself providing the drive is going to do anything..
