Philips GA 209

I managed to acquire a Philips GA 209 fully automatic turntable, dating from the late 1970ies. It senses the size of the record, selects the speed and starts playback when a record is placed on the platter. When I was young, it was one of the turntables I lusted after :), so I am quite pleased with my purchase.

It still works quite nicely, but I haven't had time to hook it up. It came with a Philips GP400 cartridge with a no-name stylus, but I have replaced it with a GP401/II (with an original stylus).

I don't know how it will sound, but the styling is rather unique.

That's a very nice turntable, especially given it's age! Dont think i've seen anything quite like it before!

Will be nice to hear something about e sound when you've had the chance to try it!

Very nice. My eldest brother owned a Philips GA-312 turntable in the mid 1970's, sounded wonderful.

I hooked it up, but it'll need some TLC as only one of the channels seems to be working. I suspect it is the old DIN -> RCA adapter I'm using (the GA 209 comes with a DIN plug). What I heard was good - less rumble than my Dual 505 and an excellent cembalo sound. I guess replacing the old cable is the best way forward.

It's a 1974 TT the correct model is 22GA209.. Try get a 'GP412' cart.
