Speaker angle

Many people spend hours altering their speaker positions but never think about moving them off the vertical axis so that the tweeters are firing at your ears. It's worth trying with a book or something first before making any permanent alteration.

yep them there big bad boys were originally designed for big american houses , and the listening position was yards away , they are on stands now (blooming big buggers) and the tweeter is at ear level with the super tweeter firing above head level , used one of those adjustable computer chairs , and raised and lowered my position before arriving at an optimum , had to use some ply with a rubber sandwich to acheive optimum hight , good call by the way , made a world of difference imho

I'll get Usher to redesign the sloping backwards design, stick a house brick under the rear of the cast iron plinth and that should do it! :lol:

No, what you need are BE10s or BE20s. Both have an acute slope on the top aiming towards the listener to give the impression of the tweeters firing down.

Not arguing with anybody's theory or findings in practice but I struggle with this concept of the tweeters (and super tweeters) having to be at ear height and/or pointing directly at the ears. At no live music venue or performance that I've ever been to does the high frequency music get directly aimed at you - it comes at you from all levels and directions.
I can't say that getting my ears and the tweeters directly lined up with each other has made any difference that I can detect. On the other hand I did prefer the SQ I got when adding ribbon super tweeters to my set up - I can't say why, it just sounded better, irrespective of the speaker 'direction' as long as they were pointing forward.
So am I effectively deaf?? :scratch: :lol:

No speaker designer can know the domestic situation that his speakers will end up in. In my case I am sitting in an office chair with the speakers on small Atacama stands so the tweeters are way below my lug 'oles.
I have stuck some felt around the tweeters so there is less diffraction. Seems sensible to direct as much information as possible in the right direction, so thats why I tried angling them.

Indeed, if they weren't so big I wouldn't even know the speakers were there as they just vanish into an incredible soundstage. I must be doing something wrong ;-)
