I need to send my caiman off to be repaired,as i have messed it up.I'm likely to be without it for a week or so and was wondering if anyone has a cheap usb dac, that i can use in the meantime?
I use active speakers and everything is running through the caiman, including the pc which i use to watch films ect (i don't own a tv)
If anyone can sort me out,i would appreciate it.

arcam r-dac any use?
Wow that's a kind offer David, wasn't expecting anything like that!
To be honest i'm not sure if it would work.I have volume controls on the speakers, would i be able to control the volume from there? Or the pc?
I'm not really sure

...that's a hell of an offer, you might not want to give it back, asynchronous USB and all that ;)
I don't see any technical issue, you could use the volume on your PC (best not to, just set it to maximum), and/or the volume on your speakers if you have a volume control on them.
I have an rPAC and it just provides a standard RAC Line-out connection, just like its big brother
Worth using a half decent USB IMHO, a £5 maplins one or suchlike
Edit; Just realised that you may have been using the Beresford as a pre-amp too, and may not have volume controls on your speakers, is that the case?

Yes Will,i'm using the caiman as a pre-amp,but the paradigms do have gain controls!
Would be interesting to have a listen to another high quality dac,so David,if your offer still stands,i'll take you up on it :D
Let me know the shipping costs, via pm.
I have a belkin usb cable somewhere, but i'll just use the Trico i have,as it's only tempory anyway!

Not sure i have anything that will connect to that!

...well spotted Chris!
I wondered why it sounded rubbish, probably because I'm using it with a class AA amp !!!

Well,it wasn't the r-dac i was talking about Will.David also offered the choice of a Micromega Mydac,so i chose that one.It seems to offer fantastic sppv,if all the comments being made on it are to be believed.
The word 'giant killer' seems to be thrown about with this dac, whether this is true or not remains to be seen!!
