Hi - only just got this but something else so tempting has come up i am not sure i can resist....

The 1210 was new in 2010 and is in perfect condition. The Mike new bearing (which is regarded by all as the best you can buy) and the timetsep he external power supply (which is regarded by some as the best you can buy ;) - were both installed at this time.

I added the upgraded arm, KAB damper, had the platter modified by Inspire hifi myself......Used carefully and sparingly by the original owner from new (a lovely old vicar according to sound hifi who installed the psu).

The deck is basically mint... The lid has a small scratch at the back that you wouldnt notice unless someone pointed it out.

Cost of upgrades = £200 platter modification (see below link for pics - its awesome) £500 bearing installed / £500 psu installed / £100 isonoe feet / £40 sds feet under these / £85 audio origami rewire and tube shrinkwrap / £80 kab tonearm
damper..... Total £1505

New 1210.... £1000+ ?

Looking for £1300 ono for the package....hopefully someone will be interested in getting a ready to use super 1210 without any of the hassles of ordering and installing all the seperate parts?

Let me know if any interest..... Pics here - scroll down the page a bit. Doesnt show the KAB tonearm damper as not installed yet.....http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?t=21864

In brighton for viewing / listening / tea and biscuits.... :)

Will split if no interest in the package in a while......

Kind regards
Jamie

Jamie - that's a cracking turntable package there, will be very interested to read of what you're going on to?

If I could be a bit 'pre-emptive' here? I'd just like to register an interest in the KAB damper if you decide to split things up, plus tentatively for the psu.

Thanks. :)

Yeah its a bit of a beast alright :)

The replacement is a 12" belt drive option which is going to cost a fair bit more so i really need to see what interest this generates first :)

If not enough interest it will make up my mind for me, and ill happily keep this little beauty and enjoy the socks off it!!! Maybe even upgrading the arm sometime which will probably remove all doubt and ill keep it ever :)

KAB Damper is good!

'tis indeed Andy - had one on my last 1210 and it worked a treat. Fits beautifully too - it's as though Technics-San left a space for it all along. :)

I wanted to edit the original post but seems editing must be time limited for some reason?

Anyway - forgot to mention a couple of things :

originally installed with an SME arm and i have the soundhifi armboard which can be included - new price £89

the inspire platter upgrade involves removing the plastic cover usually found under the platter..... I still have the cover in case its needed in future :)

have the original box and manuals

Also heres the pics for those who cant be bothered going into the link above :)

One of them shows the isonoes replaced with sorbothane pods which i think actually looks better - not tested the sound but as the unit is pretty sturdy and they are in turn sat on the sds feet..... I am sure its pretty vibration proof!

The option to replace this is slipping away.... and listening to music the last couple of days working from home.... I am slowly changng my mind anyway as it sounds stunning!

And looks even better now I have switched to foculpod supports :) Reminds me of an old escort cosworth with dropped suspension - ha!

Anyone interested before I upgrade the arm and keep it for ever!?

Hi Jamie,

Just out of interest, what's been done here to the arm-tube on the Techy's tonearm:

http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z428/jamington2004/technics/214dbde94212faaddb132a8fc9a2f08b.jpg

Is that a KAB mod? :)

Marco.

Well Andy this'll be something to play records on until the spring when I then go looking at other stuff, but as to having a play with this one never say never! Sometimes I enjoy the fiddling more than the listening - I've certainly learnt a hell of a lot about the mechanical innards of a 1210 over the last few years and taking one apart holds no fears now. :)

Jamie - if you wanted to sell your modded arm on, then please give me a shout as I'd be very interested. :)

Hi Jamie, I like your individual approach with regards to your Techie mods. No doubt that the wiring and shrink (which looks a really neat job against the black of the Techie) have improved the arm and addresed it's resonant nature and lightness -the stock arm has excellent bearings. The platter mod is a lot less than a Funk or Mike New ETP and again will have addressed the ringyness of the stock platter, a nice option for those who like the aesthetics of the stock platter and dont have or are not inclined to spend £600.00 on an upgrade platter. I'm not surprised then with the 2M Black (great choice incidently) and retaining the on the fly as easy vta adjust important with this cart, that she's singing. I'd be inclined to keep to be honest :eyebrows: next move might be to consider the superb Yannis 423.5 tonearm cable ? and if you felt it necessary a 'better' arm in the future ? although your's is probably pretty good now and you'd lose the brill on the fly vta adjust - decision decisions

I am weakening by the day, i never thought i would ever....errrver...EVER !! consider a 1210 but this cracker is tipping me, :(
could someone please take this out of circulation before i yield.

Thanks - I think realistically this is the only thing I will split if someone wants the deck as is to put another arm on......

A couple of sniffs.... although the more I listen the more tempted I am to keep.... have some loud detailed electronic music as we speak - and the detail is stunning!!

If I do keep I will be getting another arm I think.... so I'll drop you a line...

Decisions decisions indeed!!! I am excited to know what a Origin Live Encounter would bring to the game.... or my ultimate dream would be to "Funk" the arm up.... keeping the existing mechanism and adding their FXR armtube..... but at £995 its a tad above my price range..... I am more of a second hand bargain kind of guy!

Tell me more about the VTA adjustment is so important with the 2M Black? I kind of have the arm level with the platter (by eye) buts thats all I know ..... is that right?? :) Maybe you could PM me if you get a chance so's not to mess up the thread?

Hi - its just got some shrinkwrap around the arm tube to stop any ringing, which I read was a a nice upgrade..... Its a nicely done job, with just a tiny crease on the inside where it curves, but you can can't see it from the front at all...

As to the Tecchy itself - if it's floating your boat this well I'd be tempted to keep it. I've just bought another one. Can't believe this will be the 5th one I've had - yikes! It needs a little bit of work on the arm so am either going to get a brand new OEM one (they're only about 40 quid) and...

1. Have it re-wired by J7.

Or...

2. Perhaps have yours if you decide to move it on.

Or...

3. Get a Jelco.

I'm trying really hard not to go for No.3 if I'm honest as it'll mean I'm comitted to keeping the deck. Not 100% sure the 1210 is where I want to be at the moment but I'm a bloody impatient b*gger. :D

Right!!

Having raved about this so much in the last week.... and it all being true (rather than sales pitch cos I ain't that man).... I realised that I am actually madly in love with the 1210 and shall be keeping it.

I was only trying to fool myself!

If anyone so much as looks at her in the wrong way now there will be trouble!! ;)

So - probably going to sell the rewired / shrinkwrapped tonearm and KAB damper... Ill get in touch with those who showed an interest in it :)

Thats the sensible thing to do Jamie, after much deliberation, i've gone too far with my Garrards and don't feel like starting all over again.

Well we both were unsure....and after swinging both ways (steady!!) - we ended back where we started!

At least it was a wortwhile excercise in confirming where we wanted to be!!!
