On the weekend I checked the capacitor in each crossover for these speakers. They are electrolytic bipolar capacitors rated at 8uF/50v. Anyway, they both measure perfectly. Should I replace them anyway? They are 30 years old after all.

While I think they sound rather nice as is after replacing the main driver surrounds I'm curious as to how much more I could get out of them with modern polypropylene replacements.

So does anybody have any suggestions as to reasonably priced replacements? The crossovers consist of an inductor and capacitor on the tweeter only. The most popular values seem to be 8.2uF. Would this be OK to use?

Now I just have to get rid of the smell of cigarettes from the cabinets!

Ansar 'Supersound'.. I use nothing else. A pair of 8uF//450V would cost you around £12.00

If you choose to use another type, 8.2uF will be ok, the old cap will be out of tolorance by now anyway..

However just changing one cap aint gonna be a revelation..
