View Full Version : Small speakers
Can anyone recommend any speakers to go with a fatman Wi-tube dock, they have to be small speakers that will be sitting on a shelf but sound half decent.Cheers
back in the 80's, I always thought warfdale diamonds sounded ok for their size.
Might be a cheap option???

Original Mission 780SE!
Very punchy and musical for a small speaker, cheap these days too.

Old style Mission (or Cyrus) 780SE or 760i/760SE can get them for £50 and sound great! As far as I know the Cyrus model isn't better. Great speakers with flaws but a 'priceless' quality in making music!

The tweeters were prone to failure. I had to replace loads of them when I worked in the repair department of Lasky's.

If they weren't going on a shelf, I'd tell you to get a pair of the little old Genexxa LX5 Pro's - you wouldn't believe how good they can sound. About £70 on Ebay at the moment.

Yes, good recommendation. I reckon they might be OK on a shelf, but well out from the wall though.

I still have a rosewood pair sitting there, will probably use them for my daughter's system!
No problems with the tweeters with mine, and new ones easily sourced for £30 or so (Vifa D19TD-05). Be aware that this is the same tweeter that was used in Snell & also Audio Note speakers!

I am using a pair of these at the moment. They are indeed very good, doubtless due in no small part to the Linaeum tweeter.

Yup, if you can find a pair that is though!
JPW Mini Moniors sound rather good for the money. If you push them close to the wall they even have some bass..

Mordant Short MS10i pearls .
JBL Control Now loudspeakers are worth looking at £60 or less each at the moment.I have just one on the bookshelf ,using one of those Monacor stereo/mono converters.

I'm happily using some Mordaunt-Short Carnival 2's in the shed.
Made for bookshelves (15x9x5") infinite baffle, very high quality 8" bass driver, alnico cone tweeter, 85-17,000Hz frequency response, easy to drive (8ohms/6 watts=96dB)
Usually found for under a fiver on eBay (bought mine for a quid!) They are a cut above the diamonds & mini monitors IMO... Crossovers are ripe for fettling aswell :eyebrows:

The JPW Gold is a nice little speaker. usually go for £20 - £30.
The Jamo Cornet 145 is also rather better than it's humble price might suggest. I got a pair for £25 but they'd still be great value for £40. Rear ported though so need a little room behind them.
Also in the price range the Mission 731i is a great little speaker.
