I'm putting out an AOS SOS for some help!
I've just bought a couple of MC carts - a ZYX & an Ortofon, that I would like to compare to my trusty Nagaoka, and then keep my fave.
Despite my advancing years, have sadly never learnt the dark art of mounting a cart. Is there anyone who could lend a hand? I'm based in Highgate and really would be most grateful indeed.

Hi Julian,
I don't know if you have the basic tools, but you need a small suitably sized good quality screwdriver for the mounting screws, a pair of strong tweezers or small narrow nosed pliers to pull off and put on the cartridge lead tags. An alignment protractor (available online or I can PM one to you) and a stylus force gauge (I use a cheap digital scale with a plastic top that won't damage the stylus).
If you want me to copy an alignment gauge to you let me know, you may have to adjust it for size and I can tell you the correct dimensions.
You will need to know how to set the tracking force and bias for your pickup arm. Use the manual or check online, the details should be available somewhere.
You need to be careful and patient doing the cartridge change. I suggest starting with a tracking force of around 2g for the MCs and see how they respond, every cartridge can be different.
Geoff.

I'm in Finchley and while no expert I have got a digital down-force gauge, mirrored protractor, small screwdrivers and "stuff" if anything is of help.

Hi Julian, I might be free on Sat 15 Dec between lunch and 5ish and could possibly squeeze in a visit if you're still looking for help to set up your carts and if you can wait this long. I can also bring along a few generic alignment protractors though ideally you might want to get one for the Kuzma if this is available. PM if interested.
