Do you ever feel like calling it a day?

I mean, with regard to hi-fi forums. There was a time when I was quite a prolific poster, but my post count has definitely dwindled and I often find myself starting to type a response and then deleting it. I still love music and designing/making stuff - I just seem to be losing interest in discussing it.

I wonder what motivates people to post on forums such as this?

yes and no , it kinda depends on your frame of mind , and how happy you are with your set up , personally i think you can learn something new everyday , so i keep reading , even if i am not posting

All the time but i always have things to talk about if not Hi-Fi i have a duty to the almighty prog to uphold :eyebrows: ..I like to talk about things within vintage circles that's either forgotten about or more to the point things that modern hi-fi have stripped away.

My fav duty is of course telling people how cack the music is they are listerning to. so as you can imagine i'm needed around these parts :D

Mark, if you feel jaded (as we all do sometimes), mate, take a break. We all need a break from forums sometimes. I get no choice in the matter though, lol... Just come back soon-ish, or you'll be missed! :)

I think everyone goes through this from time to time H, I certainly do anyway. In fact I'm going through it at the moment. I log on, look around and think, what the hell am I doing here? :lol: Incidentally, it's not just HiFi forums. I run a UFO forum and from time to time I just think, Feck it!!! I really can't be arsed with all this today. Thankfully I have a great Mod team who know their stuff :eyebrows:

To learn from people like you :) I've made some fantastic friends on here too . My system has totally changed for the better and I'm enjoying my music more than ever .

I do a hell of a lot less posting than I used to but still spend a good deal of time reading the threads. A lot of the postings are in the realms of what I either know little about, or in topics that don't interest me at all like downloads and squeezeboxes, etc. I recently went through a period where I fastidiously read a lot of posts in the music section and bought music on the strength of recommendations made by members. Some is really great, some is utter shite, but I still luvs ya :lol:

I get a bit disenchanted with high end stuff, specifically how quickly the law of diminishing returns kicks in.
I have thoroughly enjoyed messing around again with a T amp and an old pair of speakers connected up to my computer with a dac that cost £28!
The strength of this forum is that no ones seems to get snotty about low value stuff, upgrades repairs etc.

I often go through this phase - every year in fact. Curiously, it usually occurs in the winter months when the days are short.

In fact I 'resigned' only recently, but was persuaded by others that I might be making a mistake (due to a misunderstanding) and ought to reconsider. Obviously I have, but will be taking a break from the Forum; enabled by my having house guests over the Christmas period. A break for a week or two from time to time is often a good idea - it prevents one from becoming jaded.

AoS is just like any other forum - it's organic. There will be times when the topics being discussed are not to your interest, or the debate is desultry: usually during the summer holiday period.

AoS is also a 'broad church', we have members with a wide range of musical tastes and equipment by which to enjoy it. Clearly members have their own personal agenda: those aspects of sound reproduction that is important to them - and the medium by which the music is stored. It is one of AoS's greatest strengths that these issues can be discussed openly, calmly and in a friendly manner and without decending into rancour. I have learnt a lot through being a member and have made many friends here as well.

So I would encourage you to stay. You won't will find a better audio discussion forum anywhere else!

Actually, my comments weren't directly addressed to AoS as a forum, but to forums in general. I am a member of a number of forums - four, or five, of those I stopped posting on some time ago; I now very rarely post on the tent based forum and my interest in the brightly hued fish has similarly dwindled - in fact, AoS is the forum I most regularly post on these days.

However, I think I will take Marco's advice and I will take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Christmas.

I'm really pleased you're still here Mark, you just really helped me with your stylus scale, but i think we all sometimes think what you're thinking, do i belong here, am i liked, am i one of the gang? I have to say, of all the forums, AOS is my favourite, it feels like home, and i think we are all individual pieces in a bumper jigsaw puzzle, and we all have our place, and when one of those pieces is missing, the puzzle is incomplete. :)

We had a young "Ed Straker" living here a year or two back - same shades, hair colour and haircut and even a Straker-esque (to a point) style of dress (not jump-suits, but roll-neck sweaters and slim trousers). I'd do a double-take every time I saw him around. he's grown up a bit now and toned it all down, but I still recognise him...

Always good to have a break and thank heavens I'm working again, at least until Easter (fingers' crossed for an extension), which keeps me occupied weekdays.

Yes, me too. I never take work for granted but the challenge is necessary to my enjoyment of everything. I believe in getting the work/life balance in harmony.
