Been fancying a Morch tonearm for my Hyperspace. anyone out there own one? Just how good are they?:)

Have you heard any of the Steve Wilson ELP remasters yet. I was told that Tarkus is amazing. Bloody expensive like.

Not sure if my thoughts count here but I bought an early Moerch UP-4 from Hans when I had some business in Copenhagen in the early 80's. They were not the money they sell for now although with the high Danish VAT rate they were still a fair amount back then. I never really got on with the arm probably due to me not really having an affinity with unipivots in general. Think the arm was quite picky about cartridge choice and I also didn't get on with the cartridge mounting method. Tried it on both suspended and non suspended turntables and think it worked better for me on the suspended ones (unipivot plus floppy suspension - go figure). Thought the finish was a little crude in those days although it looks like they have improved and are quite blingy now.

Yeh i pre ordered both the first album & 'Tarkus' on the 3 CD disc sets..I just bought the first five ELP albums on Viny on the 'Music On Vinyl' label. For some reason their keep's being a delay for ELP 's/t' & 'Tarkus' Wilson jobbies on vinyl :scratch:

Let me know what the Steve Wilson ones are like Andre. I was told the early pressings had extra track on that shouldn't have been included and they recalled them. Lucky blighters who actually managed to buy one eh?

I have the first batch Tarkus' CDee with that track on but yes i'll let you know.. £25.00 each for the vinyls aint bad you have to remember they are 2x LP sets.. :)

I used both the UP4 (silver) and DP6 (12in gold) in the 1990s and still have the UP4 which I intend to keep. I never got around to actually comparing these with other arms but they are very good tonearms. One of my fave arms is the Syrinx PU-3 and I also have a soft spot for the Mayware Formula IV. There's something inherently simple and elegant about unipivots and they also tend to sound more natural and less hi-fi IMHO.

I think the Morchs are works of art and also seem to be quite rare. I've turned down unsolicited offers for mine, so they may be good investments if anything. In terms of compatibility I'd be surprised if they could not be made to match most cartridges given that you can order different mass arm wands for different carts. I had two different mass wands on the DP6, one for an Ortofon Rohmann and another for a Transfig Spirit. Both sounded very good.
