Quad 11 repairs ?

I am now looking at repairs to my non working amp :(

A service on both as well

Amy one on here do this type of work in exchange for some beer tokens :D

What exactly don't they (assuming there are 2???) do and can you post a decent picture of the internals please.

One amp looks quite clean inside

The other ( Not Working ) looks a bit burnt around the power in and earth connecter :(

Hi Al, you've got the ideal opportunity to compare the faulty amp to the working one and maybe find the fault yourself.
Only do this if you are confident to use your multimeter with the power on with an open chassis. If in doubt don't.
My first test would be to compare the voltage on either side of the 0.1uF 150V capacitors in picture 4 and 5, one is brown and the other black. They would be the first components to replace as they are known to go leaky.
All the resistors below these capacitors are carbon composition and increase in value as they age. The only way to test them properly is to disconnect one end (with the power OFF of course, and having waited for a few minutes for the capacitors to discharge) and measure their resistance.

They look in nice original condition.

I would suggest that there will be a fair chunk of the caps that could do with replacement in order to return the units to their original specification even in the one that's working. It's always a good idea to check and perform preventative maintenance.

How confident are you having a look? You do need t be careful with the voltages in valve amps and I'm not sure I'd recommend much other than removing and reading component values if you are not confident. You will also need to be very careful not to break the tag strips if you plan to remove components to test. They will be extremely fragile now.

It's been a while since I built my chrome ones but as I said if you're not in a rush, I can help in the new year :)

I guess it all depends if you are looking for an out and out rebuild at an hourly rate or a favour for beer tokens.

I wish I'd never sold these and while they are not everyone's cup of tea on the inside, the circuit is the same, just using modern components.

Ian , thanks for the offer , I would need them rebuilt ( ASAP ) and intend to use them regularly , Nice set up you have , and sound like a very electrically talented gent :D , I have a very basice understanding of electrikery :scratch::scratch:

I have contacted Paul at Classique Sounds so will see what he can do for me :)
