Just spent an enjoyable day at Owston and a night having a few beers with Mr Tate who I had never met until now, what a thoroughly nice chap.
Ali's system is pretty special too IMO. Open baffle speakers looked terrific and even though the room at Owston is nothing special his system showed signs of greatness, well done dude. :)
I've heard his system in situ...his wife is wry accommodating of the 2 pairs of big speakers he had out when I was there including the open baffle pair. Agreed his system sounded great then though it had prob moved on/been tweaked in the last year. I do though keep thinking about building a pair of OB speakers like his.

Aye a crackin system....makes John Martyn almost understandable (then again maybe not!)
Ali has taken a lot of time to help myself and a good few of the AOS posse in the frozen north to progress down the route to musical self-fulfilment.....

Cheers David, it was good to meet you too. A thoroughly enjoyable weekend. The Snells you got were a bargain I thought. Lovely little speakers.
A few folk seemed to like the system, it shows what can be done for not much money, though of course the TFS helps matters. But considering the amps are only £180 each, and all the speaker drivers can be bought for about £400, it shows what can be done I think.
Totally agree you do not have to pay crazy money to get great sounds. Would love to hear your system sometime Ali but guess the distance makes it hard. Sounds like you guys had a great time

Always glad to help if I can mate. Really enjoyed hearing a pair of 63's again at your place, a truly great speaker IMHO.

It's a wonder that you noticed the difference, as your head is always thick! :D

Like wise John, be good to hear yours too. Maybe when the AOS show gets sorted.
Looks like you guys had a ball. I would have liked to have gone but I didn't even know it was happening!

Me too - why was it not better publicised on AoS? - or was it and I missed it?
While I'm here I'd just like to add my bit in appreciation of Ali. On my first visit to Owston a few years ago he was the first one to come up and introduce himself, give me a brief explanation of what was happening and point out one or two 'leading lights' of the meeting - much appreciated when you're a total clueless newbie. I know he has had great personal difficulties in his life since then but his willingness to offer advice has never been less than very friendly and helpful - I hope everything is as well as can be with Ali and those around him :) .
Dave.
Ali's a good guy, wanted to go to Owsten but as usual something came up.
If theres an AOS meet organised (Marco get the finger oot..) then it would be great for us all to meet up.
Kinda like the Pie show but with us lot!

Pah! Glad I didn't bother then... :dynamite:

Good point. Ali, why didn't you advertise it in advance on AoS? You usually do, mate...
Gaz, plans for the AoS show are in full swing, but you'll need to be prepared to travel down south (it's looking like it's going to be held around the Nottingham area).

Thanks for all the kind comments gents, I like to help where I can.
Dave, yes Michelle is doing ok at the moment, though the last lot of chemo resulted in a hyper sensitivity to sunlight, as was discovered when we went for a walk and she ended up with second degree burns all the way up both arms. She is having yet more tests to see if they can determine the exact cause. Your concern is much appreciated.

BTW, sorry if folk were unaware of Owston happening, it wasn't intentional, and I'm sure I and others have mentioned it in passing several times in passing on various posts here. I will make a point of announcing the next one.

Hi Ali,
That sounds not too bad in the circumstances so it's good to hear. Hope it all continues well. When someone is good to you it's natural to be concerned about their wellbeing.
Look forward to meeting up with you again, if not at the up-coming AoS do then at the next Owston but this time let us all know, in my case several times ;) .
Best wishes,
Dave.

Bit more grey in it since the first time I met him!
(I'm dreading going grey m'self....:D)

 this from the silver fox!
Aye, a car share might be doable, though we will all want to take kit!
:rfl:
Well, it is, if you live in Glasgow! ;)
Marco.
Sorry gents i never thought to post, i did a few times 2-3 years ago but not many from this forum came, i have mentioned it in one post and i've seen Ali mention it in quite a few posts too.
we will be having another get together around may next year, all are welcome, its a good but very long day, aimed at diyer's,
there is always a thread running for the 3 months beforehand over on audio talk.
I appreciate audio talk may be too much on the technical side for some.
but we have some good meet ups and produce some good sounds from the kit we make or put together, and all are more than welcome to come.
Its not a show, just a get together to listen to what ever has been brought and have good chat etc etc.. shared costs, none profit making.
cheers
steve
Thanks for that, Steve. Always best to advertise the fests on all the major forums, though, as you never know who will turn up! ;)
Marco.

Trust me on this one, the river Trent is very good for sobering up at midnight!
