My Mike New ETP Composite Platter Has Arrived

:yay: It arrived at work and i couldn't resist slippin' it out of it's packaging :eyebrows: First impressions are it's a solid hunk of a platter, a real black beauty, fairly heavy and about as resonant as a brick :lol: which is very very reassuring. A tap results in barely a thud compared to the long lasting ring of my stock platter. Unfortunately I wont be able to give comments re: sonics just yet as my amp is still down and has been since August :( I also have loads of upgrades to be fitted ie armboard, Micro Seiki tonearm etc. As well as these I have a Yannis 423.5 with Eichman silver bullets and Furutech carbon din, ADC Magnesium headshell, Ortofon LW 800S pure silver Headshell Leads. Once all installed I'll get down to some serious listening and upload piccies of course, hopefully by mid Dec - I cant wait :D

You can pop over to me with the new platter and see it working on my 1200 MK11 for a couple of hours , bring some tunes ( LP's ) or listen to my selection

Thanks Andrew, Very kind. Would love to take it to some of the places you have ie: Cadenza Black etc but funds wont permit so my 2M Black, which I find superb incidently on the stock arm, should sound amazing when the new arm, platter, Yannis's 423.5 and other bits are added :) I think my biggest frustration is being without music since August - (painful) and my amp still not being fixed which I am going to have to sort one way or the other pretty soon - I want upgrades installed and amp sorted before Christmas, otherwise Christmas wont be quite the same :rolleyes:.

I have Yannis 222 litz IC's and they are a revelation you will not be disappointed. I feel your pain regards to not having your deck. I was without mine for 3 months/ I did manage to buy a 2nd deck of $hitbay which to my surprise was an excellent alternative for the time that I didn't have my 1210. This was a Alphason Solo deck which I love, especially hooked up with my Technoarm, great match I think. The 1210 may be having an additional upgrade done in the next 6-12 months but I cant really go too much into that. The next thing for me i think is either a P10 unit (a la MartinT), a different phonostage, or possibly upgrading my powerleads with some top notch bits and pieces. You must if you can get a SUT. I've only had mine for 2-3 days and already I notice a massive difference.

Forgot to mention the new Mike New platter is supposed to have less bass expression than the heavy aluminium & platter (the one I have). This may suit you if you have bass interactions with your room. just though that this might be of interest to you.

Hi Andrew, It's going to be interesting when I have the new platter, arm and everything else installed that's for sure. I'm expecting things to sound wonderful after very careful set up and fiddling to find the sweet spot. Hopefully synergy will be there like the 'glue'.
John (Prestonchipfryer) also has the ETP but with recess. He hasn't experienced any lessening of bass expression that I am aware of. He did say to me in a pm I still have and I use his words that after fitting the composite platter he used it 'naked', i.e.: no mat and found this gave a presentation which was very clear in mids and a somewhat recessed treble but with bass far too heavy for his taste. He found the best result for him has been with a felt mat and 480g record weight. I'll be going similar route but not a felt mat. I have a stunning 340g record weight which I'll definately use too :)
