Any users of the Promitheus TVC Preamp care to share their thoughts?

I bought one new around 4yrs ago direct from them at factory, couldn't wait to get it installed in my system, hmmmm quite average sounding, I thought it was going to be superb with all the hype I read about it etc, think I'd it sold off within a couple of months. Nothing exciting.

Only my tuppence worth input experience.

Hi Gerard. I have one as you know and it is the best pre amp I have heard. Neutral and incredibly transparent. Build quality is basic putting it kindly, but what can you expect for the money.

There are matching requirements when using a TVC, they won't work in every system in much the same way a purely passive volume control won't. The source (phono stage or DAC usually) needs to be able to drive the cables and amplifiers on the other side of the TVC. The worst reasonable example I can think of would be a valve phono stage with an output impedance of 5k trying to drive a solidstate poweramp with a 10k input impedance. Any passive pre requires a little thought about it's application (you may have done thing, my comment is general). The TVC I have is an S&B and it is great. I also have a great active preamp to contrast it with.

Hi Dom,

Good to know you are still very happy with the Promitheus - I'm guessing you have now been using it for around 12 months?
