Yes I'm checking in from the old dominion of Canada.

I was reading some interesting posts and noticed that I still had not said hello in the Welcome forum, so Hello There to All!

Me? Not too serious - but I have collected a fair bit of gear over the years. I just finished restoring an old Thorens TD124 I had on a shelf, which got me going on an old SME 3009 type 1 'Prototype' that I had never used, which caused me to consider picking up an MC cartridge (no experience there) which got me looking for a MC pre and trying to understand SUT comatabilities - ouch! Then I remembered that my old Albarry PP1 had both MC and MM on board, so out it came and sure enough there are MC tags on the circuit. That got me reading stuff here, as there seem to be several Albarry folk here, and so here I am.

I use both tubes and solid state, both cones and electrostatic, vinyl and mp3, even R2R, and I prefer 2 wheels to 4. I listen to prety well everything but if it is angry, and trying hard to challenge, then not so much. I even like a good sound effect (Homer style!).

IMO the Thorens td124 is a super deck and so upgradeable, nice to see you like Vinyl. Is there still an interest in vinyl over there?

I'm one of those Albarry folk you mentioned, I'm a big fan, you may not be aware that Albarry relaunched 2 years ago and the new products are World beaters IMHO. have a look at the website albarrymusic.com

Ha, no, no snow yet in Toronto. We rarely get good dumps here. I have lived in areas of the big digs, but here, I ride through the winter slush.

My system Chris?, its more a rotation of parts, I like changing things up from time to time, either from the basement or serendipitous finds, like a couple of weeks ago I came home with a new(old)pair of Rogers JR149's, which I like better than my LS3.5a's, so I am refinishing them and the 3.5's are off to the guest room system. I usually drive the 3.5's with my Leak TL25's or my Electrohome EL34 Slave Amp (similar to a Dynaco ST70 but with Dual Valve Rectifiers and a 7H Choke). Sometimes I drove them (litterally) with a Cerwin-Vega A-3000I, and they seemed to like that, although I am ashamed to admit owning the beast, it does 'get the job done', well until the DC offset went south - now it sits, silently waiting for service.

My principal listening is off an old TD150 (3009+ with ADC10E'brick') or 320mp3 rips though macs and a NAS server to a slightly modded PAS3 pre and stock Quad II's to bronze Quad ESL 57's.

Some less common items include Nagra III, Elecrtovoice Circlotron, Braun PS500, Stromberg-Carlson A428's, Ferrograph 5 and a 'healthy' collection of other items as well as valve amp parts - I have been seen as a bit of a hoarder or junk collector by some less than understanding partners in the past. Currently my wife has relegated my curatorial 'material' to the basement, where it lurks row on row on dexian shelving - but I have plans... yes, I have.

I have an Albarry PP1 as well, but I must admit it's in a cupboard and has not been used in over a year, having been usurped by a young upstart Rega amp!

Anyway, have fun here and what sort of music do you listen to? I'm a fan of quite a few Canadian artists and have taken to Terri Clark of late.

Never listened to a Rega amp but I'll bet they are sweet, they have always produced quality stuff, and I like the little Brio w/ remote. Old farts like me like the sit back with remotes! My soon to do project is putting together an Aikido preamp with a remote control Volume pot + Switching, but I've been vasillating as I am not really prepaired to do a phono section and less so a MC phono section, hence pulling out the Alberry. But, damn, it has no remote!

While I listen to most everything, I have a real weakness for electronic and ambient stuff; Bola, Bluetech, Xerxes all the way back to Bruce Haack, and Syrinx (see Tillicum). Otherwise I gravitate to single or as few 'voices' as possible - Spanish, South American (brazil,peru), and Blues/Folk Guitars (see I Wish I Was A Mole In The Ground) always work for me - those work well with the old Quads.
