The vinyl journey continues... I've now bought a LOMC to try (a Denon DL301Mk2), but as my Jelco is on the heavy side I'm looking for a lighter headshell. Definitely on the budget end of things.

I'm also going to need a SUT, preferably south of £100. DIY efforts would be fine - I'm tempted to get Partridge trannies from the 'bay but just don't have the time in the near future to put them together.

SME headshell was designed with lightness in mind. Or an Osawa magnesium headshell is possibly even lighter and more rigid. They crop up on eBay quite often.

A Shelter model 1101L is 9g

The technics stock headshell is 7g

Not much sonic differences between both on with my AT-OC9ML/II.
I like the Shelter a bit better.
(that's in a stock technics arm)

How light a headshell?

Anything less than the standard 12g Jelco one would be fine, although at the moment I'd be happy with a similar one to get the cart fitted.

I have a very similar one to this in silver.
It's not technics and has no cables.
It is new and unused.

I bought it off ebay sometime ago but ended up with a different headshell.

Weighs 10g.

Seems to me you definitely should look out for the Osawa magnesium headshell, it's almost skeletal in design, very light and rigid and very well made, I doubt you'll find anything lighter. Usefully, they often come with top quality Litz OFC wire tags.

I've had many of the Technics headshells and they too are decent quality, but not particularly light or stiff.

ADC LMG 1 Magnesium headshell is very good indeed, stiff / rigid and weighs only 7grams.
