I've run a Wadia very successfully using various guises of Stan's Dac with excellent results from the Caiman the various upgrades the Gator board in its many versions I'm currently using Stans Bushmaster and every upgrade has seen noticeable improvements.
I upgraded the Wadia power supply using a one of Paul Hynes excellent off the peg jobs and in my opinion the results even from the humble iPod beggared belief .... I am going to upgrade the PSU on the Bushmaster and buy another iPod classic as I feel t that Apple may drop the model eventually - I am also in the process of digitising old vynl despite the giggles behind the hands of the more esoterically and financially blessed, I have a convenient medium small and compact that plays music well..... and that with the aid of an external portable Dac my old Caiman I can take with me.
Go for it and one of Mr Beresfords vfm masterpieces and I guarantee you'll be very impressed.

+1 for the Bushmaster.

I have a Wadia 170i that has had the Audiocom Signature upgrade (http://www.audiocominternational.com/audio-video-modifications/59-wadia-171i-transport-mods.html) with a Teddu Pardoe PSU into a Bushmaster (Venom upgrade) with SBooster and I have to say the SQ is very very good.

The Audiocom upgrade made a huge difference in SQ over the standard setup.

Would the Audiolab M Dac be a good match for the Wadia 170i?

Take a look at Stans website (http://www.homehifi.co.uk/PP/Digital_Audio_1.html) I think you have to add VAT to the prices.
