heybrook HB3 series 2

Hi

I am interested in hearing from others who play on the excellent speaker Heybrook HB3 series 2.
What amplifier you use. my amplifier is a Croft Series 7 (Great amp)
Would also like to see the crossover of Heybrook HB3 mk1. If there is one that has pictures it would be cool.
Or share experiences about these super speakers.

My only experience is of rotton midrange units... Still looking for some replacements - not that I remember to look - so I can hear my HB3s (which were thrown in for free when I won the HBS3 stands on ebay many moons ago).

Rough and ready and needed loads of patience to get the best out of them I remember. The mk2's were rather better, but IMO certainly not a "universal" speaker.

These are a perfect example in showing just how difficult it is to get three drive units to integrate - the bass to mid crossover is right where subtle details can get smeared and the mid to tweeter one is where the ear is most sensitive. Nightmare crossovers for an amp to drive too..

Don't think the Heybrook hb3 is hard to drive, my Croft series 7 is really good with hb3.
But maybe a series 7R mono is mutch better?

Alive and musical yes! Ragged driver integration, dreadful dispersion and very coloured certainly!

A Series 7 will be fine for them, but choose speaker cables carefully..

Never was that impressed with them. Quite ragged but big and musical sounding. The era when highly coloured 'foot taping' sound was in vogue.

One of the best HiFi Show experiences of my life was HB3s running off EAR 509s. Utterly wonderful sound, so good I bought the speakers! Maybe the best sound I got out of them was at the end of rebuilt Dynaco monoblocks and running a valve pre off a Heybrook TT2. I've heard HB3s sounding lousy, but get them right.........
Midrange??? SEAS used to have, from memory, a MCA11MC, or something like that, it was a drop in replacement for the 11FM and sounded great with no modifications whatever. Needed the replacement when my much loved cat put his claws thru one they might still be available today.

That would make sense, since 90% of the development of the HB3 was done with a pair of 509s.
