Just wondered what thoughts were. I tend to only buy first original press if I can help it and sometimes dont know whether to opt for the US or UK press ?

I think the general consensus is that the best version is usually that of the originating country - i.e. US recordings get the first US pressing etc

A good general rule but not always true. Prefer UK CBS from 70's were I have been able to compare. Also white label (EMI) Asylum are regarded as superior to contemporary US pressings. Also factor in better QC in general with UK and German pressings v US. Of course some artists were poorly served outside country of origin with the US and UK versions having different track listings.

Yes, I think my 'general consensus' + 'usually' = your 'good general rule' !
