Haven't had my (basic) turntable playing for a while now, this afternoon I looked out a dozen or so albums and spun the black plastic stuff, w-O-w, really can't believe how good this sounds, superb!

Dual 504 tt - AT440MLa - connected into my elderly Arcam Alpha phono stage, really lovely sound for very little money. Such enjoyment....

(Albums played);

John Martyn -- Grace & Danger
Red Rodney & Ira Sullivan -- Spirit Within
Tom Harrell -- Total!
Don Menza -- Hip Pocket
Nick Drake -- Family Tree
James Taylor -- Mud Slide Slim
Love & Money -- Strange Kind Of Love
Scott Hamilton -- Race Point
Manattan Jazz Quintet -- Plays Blue Note
Basia -- Time And Tide
The Doors -- The Soft Parade
Kraftwerk -- Trans Europe Express

Brilliant ........always nice to be reminded that you can still have fun with music with a very modest system.

Dual TT's are surprisingly good if lacking detail against better decks. Pair with a bright cartridge and they are fine in a second system or for those financialy challenged.

If your toe is tapping, and a smile is on your face all is good! It can only get better from here.
Enjoy,

Yeah.. Dual are very good decks indeed. A good ol vintage make. I liked the Arcam Alpha cdp too, the matching one with that phono. Made really very well indeed.

The 504 was more substantially made than the definitely flimsier (top plate, plinth and tone arm) 505 series which replaced it. Good old decks these..

I believe that is a very good cartridge.

One man's clarity and precision is another man's thin and tinny. I like the AT lively sonics, but there are many here who prefer bass power and slam instead. The Dual 504 should favour the former I reckon but if the stock mat can be removed (mine is stuck in place and I ain't removing it), I'd try something different (I use a Spacemat on top of the 701's rubber one).
