Tannoy M20 clean up

Morning chaps, just acquired of these speeks ( and they are staying!), l have given them a quick clean, with a damp cloth, they are l believe vinyl wrapped, are there any methods/ products that l could use to bring the "walnut" grain up a bit? Thanks in advance.:)

That green squirty stuff you use for cleaning windows should bring the vinyl cabs up.

Oops nearly forgot, there are a couple of dinks in the cabinet, where the chipboard is exposed, so it looks like an off white colour, can l do anything with these?:)

A marker pen will cover and take the eye from the dinks. Match the colour as close as possible.

Chaps, l have tried window cleaner, (the green stuff) and it has got a lot of dirt/dust off, but the vinyl still looks a little "dry" if you understand me, l have used a little WD40 on veneered speeks before, but not a vinyl wrappesd speaker. so l might give that a go?

Haven't a clue of this will work for you on the dinks, but a drop of oil (trusty old EP80, which, sulphur or not, Rega have used in their bearings for forty years with no issues except it drying out after a couple of decades!) - in the dink, followed by a fairly hot hairdryer may well help reduce the magnitude of the damage if the oil can penetrate in any way.

Question, since we weren't selling Tannoy at this time. Did the M20 replace the Mercury models, or was it a bigger box more like the Venus? We didn't do the mercury models because with a Linn or Rega source (with bassy Rega cartridge), the bass was too much. With "digital," the Mercury wouldn't have been half as bad.

Thanks Dave, will try this,no l believe it ran along side Mercury models- l may be wrong on this though, they are indeed bassy, but in my room it is very well controlled, these speakers really do so sound good, these are keepers.:)

I think he tinkered with the Mercury 2. Had a pair for years and sold them for twice the price I paid.....great pair of speakers for the price when new too.

Mmmm... interesting the bass is certainly juicy and plump, but luverly, mine are the MK1 l believe, the bass port is front.:)

This has been churning around in my mind for days now!
However, I'm pretty certain that you're correct - the M20 was from a partially overlapping range that ran concurrently with the Planets range.

There was an M20 in a vinyl skin and an M20 Gold in a real tree flavour. They had a black coloured ring on the tweeter faceplates and the woofers were translucent.

The Mercury 2's and S's had tweeters with ribbed faceplates and a black coloured bass driver

Found some dates on the w's:
M20 - 1984-86
M20 Gold - 1986-89

Mercury - 1982-86
Mercury Mk II - 1986-88

.........but I could be wrong too!
