Ferrograph S1 Spares

Hi Guys

I have just become the proud owner of a pair of vintage Ferrograph S1 loudspeakers.

My idea is to build a vintage system based around the S1's and Quad 33/303. Unfortunately one of the tweeters has blown and the foam rubber padding on the front panel which supports the cloth fronts has deteriorated (that's an understatement) The resulting dust has attached itself to the dome midrange units and I think that it will extremely difficult if not impossible to remove it. Both midrange drivers still work though one has a rather untidy repair. I plan to try some compressed air on them later

Ideally I would like to restore them to their former glory if it can be done economically and I would like to find two replacement midrange units and one tweeter unit. The originals are fabric domed units which I believe may have been made by Goodmans (c.1976) though they are not marked as such.

Does anyone have any ideas where I could get the required replacements?

I bought yet more Ferro Series Seven stuff last week, it's arrived with the cabinets bust but the machines are fine.... I think i have a ferro illness that those 'S1's might just make better..

Adam (Beoman) replaced the Tweeters in his 'S1's for a Modern Audax tweeter best asking him..

In the meantime i'll PM you the X-Over details so can rebuild them

You might be in luck. My own Ferrograph S1s are the earlier type with the Goodmans cone midranges and originally the DT3 tweeters (although I have substituted Audax domes as both were blown).

However, years ago I acquired a pair of the dome midranges and crossovers which I was intending to substitute into mine but never got round to as the cabinet cutouts are different, so they've been languishing in a box for years!

Consequently, they're yours if you want them. I haven't the foggiest how much I paid for them but it wasn't very much, so as long as you cover the postage that will suit me.

I think I may have the tweeters as well - is the mounting plate for these rectangular?

Used to. Threw them in a skip years ago, I'm afraid, as I couldn't give the damn things away!

That would be superb. Substituting modern drivers would defeat my objective as they would no longer be vintage and authentic.

John Howes and I had them going yesterday evening driven by a vintage Quad 33/303, and although they were not giving anything like their best they hinted that restored, they could be a bit special.

If you would like to check that you still have the drivers and PM me with a price, I would be happy to relieve you of them. I thought that the finishing touch (when funds are available) might be a well fettled Garrard 301/SME3009 II or a good Japanese direct drive jobby.

The faceplates for both the tweeters and midrange domes are rectangular
