Look on the bright side, that's a nice pension pot for Lucas to enjoy...

Presumably these will be the originally planned episodes VII, VIII and IX?

That was what made the difference, Scott. Parts IV, V & VI had strong scripts, humour and great actors. Parts I, II & III tried to get away with SFX and little else.

Disney have a piss-poor record with science fiction. Anyone remember The Black Hole from 1979? if you don't you are very lucky. It was one of the worst things ever perpetrated on mankind. Yes, that's right, it was worse than Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.

A lot worse.

Who cares? In the grand scheme of things, it's entirely irrelevant.

Well you could say that about anything.

As a Star Wars fan for 35 plus years (and a fan of the old Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon serials from before that, which, lets face it, is where Lucas cribbed most of his ideas from) I would quite like to see some new, quality material released.

They just got so serious! All the humour and quirkiness of the first one had vanished in the latter ones. Harry Potter went the same way.

No, I disagree. Harry Potter sucked from the start, and sucked even more as it went on. Star Wars started not sucking at all, got even further from sucking with 'Empire', sucked a little with Jedi, then plumbed the depths of sucking with Phantom Menace. The last two sucked a little less, although they still sucked.

I know that is a lot of sucking there, please forgive me. And Geoge Lucas.

Dose this mean we will see Goofy in the next bar scene?
Will Darth Vader have Micky ears?
Really, another Star wars?,seems no one can think of anything new any more.
So many remakes and unending sequels.
A continuum of recycled story lines, terrible acting all hidden behind a thin vale of computer generated special effects to distract you from the fact your watching a B movie at best.

The original Star Wars film was nothing more than the old Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers serials re-hashed for a new audience. There is not much new under the sun. Star Wars was particularly well done. I think the Ralph McQuarrie designs really made it something special, but having said that a lot of things came together just right in that film.

Speaking of rip-offs, check the attck on the Death Star scene in 'A New Hope' against the attack on the Ruhr damns scene from 'The Dambusters' - the cutting and even some of the dialogue is totally lifted.
