Since there are so many prog lovers hereabouts, I thought you might like to see some of the fliers handed out by our local venue between 1969 and 1973. To put it in context, the place was about the size of a big village hall, and I don't remember ever paying more than 7/6d (37.5p) to get in. Sadly, it closed in 73 after a big police raid during a Fairport Convention gig.

Affinity/Linda Hoyle

Did you see any of these perform?

I take it the HEAVEN were the American brass rock band?

No, I missed them. The first concert I ever saw was Free in 1970 (6th sheet down), so I missed out on Floyd, Zeppelin and Yes, but I did get to see Edgar Broughton, Daddy Long Legs, Sabbath, Fairport Convention, Fotheringay, , Grounhogs, ELP’s first concert, Mott the Hoople, Quintessence, Genesis supporting Lindisfarne, Skid Row, Budgie, Caravan, Gentle Giant, Curved Air, Tangerine Dream (that was a bit later), Gong (so was that), Daddy Long Legs, Mike Westbrook, Hawkwind, Steeleye Span and the Radha Krishna Temple (took my girlfriend’s Dad with us to that one. He asked them to drop round for a chat sometime and they stayed for a week. Couldn’t get rid of them) and loads of others.

Of course, we took it for granted then that if you heard an album you liked, you’d be able to see the band. Looking back, I can’t believe how many brilliant bands I saw, and even more, how many brilliant bands I missed. (“Supertramp? Never heard of them. Let’s go to the pub …)

Radha Krishna Temple So you had George Harrison dossing around your pad for a week!

So what you recon to ELP then?

Brilliant bands alright.Kids today are just playing at music..

Supertramp Shane are a multi-national bag of ****

Don't remember George being there...

ELP were brilliant live, but somehow I never seem to play them now. Must dig them out sometime. Favourites then were Edgar Broughton and Groundhogs.

awesome.. I lived in a tin pot town, and the nearest towns for gigs were 20+ miles away.. so I never got to many...:(
