I can remember the joy of going out to buy a record in a record shop , flicking through all the latest releases , if you found something you could ask to hear it in a booth with headphones on , Great :D

It came in a album cover , all very nice , and you actually walked out with some goods for your money :)

Now with most music what do you get ? NOTHING !! a file that's downloaded onto your computer :scratch: NO going out and no product in hand

Its the same with films , download
Food , door step deliveries
Clothes to your door
Parcels picked up from your door
Banking online

Do we need legs any more ?

Not sure it a good thing this modern way

Dont use the internet or a computer you'll find your argument mostly falls down. If people want to become reliant on the net then thats there problem not mine. ;)

What about live music, does nobody go to gigs anymore? . . .well that's a stupid question as I know they do, but don't us music fans go to live music?

I reckon I buy a good few of my discs at gigs too, always try to if I can instead of Amazon and I always buy something when I visit Square Records in Wimborne, even if its just a cheap fiver disc, just wouldn't seem right walking out with my arms hanging.

Interesting post Al which l believe in a lot of ways to be true, l think there may be something more sinister going on, as Marco said it is a major bugbare, which of course is the government's fault.

I'm going to a local record shop tomorrow - I also bought one on-line today.

I just love Amazon - for the simple reason that my HMV (who have ruthlessly 'pushed out' smaller but better private shops) are pretty bloody useless.

I wish it were not so. I fondly remember the days when we had several small but quality record and book shops here, staffed by knowledgable, friendly and helpfull staff.

I've made countless purchases through Amazon and have yet to have had any problems.


I don't as yet shop for food on line, though when I become old and infirm I will. At the moment I like to get out every day to buy my bread and vegetables fresh - it gives me a chance to celebrate Zen with my fellow villager and have a bit of a chat.

It is not so much the increasing prevalence of on-line shopping that causes me concern, more the replacement of small family shops by monolithic national chains.

I insist on taking my parcels to the local post office instead of getting them collected by Royal Mail. It's to make sure that I get a break away from my desk and a chance to breath in some freshly made petrol fumes.

People are lazy, hence the obesity epidemic. As a P/T Postie I encounter the on-line shopping bonanza daily. Some people are clearly very ill. Some can't go a day without several parcels dropping on their mat.

One example recently of people who won't get off their fat arses was when I said I had a letter for next door that needed a signature, but they were out. She said that she would sign for it, but no way could she take it round. Next doors house is up a slight incline that would have taken 30 seconds to reach. Beggars belief really.
